Husband Announces Divorce to Wife Via Facebook

What is up with the Brits? They can't stop having affairs on 'Second Life,' and now it seems a British husband announced his divorce on Facebook -- of course, this was before he got around to telling his wife he was leaving her. Considering last month's disturbing news about a Staffordshire, England man who murdered his wife after she changed her relationships status on Facebook to single, this latest news is surprising.
Lancashire resident Neil Brady decided to change his relationship status on Facebook -- he announced to everyone he knew that he had, "ended his marriage to Emma Brady." Neil apparently thought his wife Emma wouldn't notice. Emma only found out that she was single after she got a call from a friend in Denmark who asked her how she was handling the breakup. Even worse, someone had commented on Neil's wall saying,"You are better off out of it."
Neil claims his wife had been seeing another man, but we've still gotta call bad form on this one. We don't care how bad your marriage is, your wife deserves the dignity of being dumped in person... and before you tell everyone else about the separation via an update on a social networking site. Losing Face on Facebook
Facebook is going to rewrite the book on standard office excuses, at least for its shortsighted users. Kevin Colvin, an intern at Anglo Irish bank, thought that had an ironclad story when he asked off to attend to a "family emergency." When his boss was alerted to this fresh picture posted to his Facebook profile during his absence, that story lost just a tad of its believability -- unless he was curing Aunt Hattie with his magical powers and a potent hoppy elixir. We're sure that posting the picture seemed like a good idea at the time, Kevin, but you were sadly mistaken. Same goes for that costume.
Students at Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey were shocked and confused when the news trucks rolled up to get the scoop on a set of Facebook photos. Obtained by a nosy parent, the pictures featured underage drinking that led to the suspension of school athletes. Many saw the role of the photos in the punishments as legally questionable, but despite organized protests and other umbrage, many students opted to just take their own racy Facebook pictures down as soon as possible. Live and learn, everyone -- just don't post visual evidence of it happening on your profile.
Even the charmed lives of beauty queens can be dragged through the mud by Facebook photos taken far away from the pageant stage. Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo discovered this firsthand over the summer when she was the target of a strange "blackmail plot" centered on profile images of her partying and carrying on in a less than royal fashion. She ended up releasing the photos herself, and soon everyone was wondering what the fuss was all about -- from venture capitalists to gossip reporters, Facebook has a tendency to get people riled up.
Thinking about shoplifting some clothing? Here's a tip -- think twice before posting pictures of yourself modeling the hot merchandise on Facebook. Two students at Radford University in Virginia learned this lesson the hard way when a store owner was tipped off and found the incriminating images on Facebook. A stroke of the 'print' button, a trip to the police office, and the bust was complete.
This story -- women who show little discretion in their alcohol consumption and even less when documenting their misadventures on their profiles -- seems to have started the most recent wave of Facebook embarrassments. While it's difficult for many to understand the personal pride and motivation behind such excess, it's even more mind-boggling to know that these exploits are being glorified online for all to see. Mom must be proud, and potential employers are surely beating down the doors.

Goes to show he ain't a man. A REAL MAN would stay by his wife.
EmilyFeb 11th 2009 2:56PM
I hope that's your name and not your religion. Why would he stay with a cheating spouse? Yes, He was wrong by even posting it on Facebook;however, he's not wrong for splitting.
ERNFeb 12th 2009 8:09AM
I'm sure she didn't let him know she was cheating. How many people knew before him?
Act as a whore..........Be treated the same

A real woman would do the same....but with the man she married

Given the spontaneous nature of the internet, I wouldn't see changing one's facebook status as 'intention of divorce' ... more like 'we're having a fight' or 'I'm really upset right now'

I just can't seem to understand how people can just get online and tell of of their business. I don't have a facebook or myspace account. I get online, surf the web, buy a few things, play cards, talk to my family and I am done. Lord people are on here just ranting and telling all of their business to people they don't even know. I have always felt that the interenet was just a fantasy world for people.

And for those who say i should be able to do what I want and feel safe bla, bla, bla, tell that to the guy thats cutting you up for the garbage bag !

He's supposed to show HER dignity for humiliating HIM by having an affair? If the roles were reversed, and a woman did this to a man who cheated on her, she'd get a standing ovation. Its even more depressing that a man wrote this article. I'd hate to think what he lets the women in his life get away with doing to him, on account of showing them dignity and all...
MikeFeb 12th 2009 6:23AM
^5 Josh...Finally...someone with common sense! You're exactly right....if the roles were reversed, all of the women readers would be saying "YOU GO GIRL! He deserves whatever he gets for cheating on you!"
I used to deal with this stuff in High School. I would get crap from a lot of girls because I broke up with their friend. Her friends would be all pissy and say "She really loved you!". So what? I didn't love her....Don't my feelings matter in the relationship? Do men have to stick around in a failed relationship just so they don't hurt the woman's feelings? Bullchit! We have every right to be happy just as they do.
Not only did this guy do the right thing, he should have pasted her face all over the internet and labeled it "This is my Cheatin' Ho! FUTURE Ex-Wife!".
leanneFeb 12th 2009 12:17PM
Mike,
I totally agree with you. There is a sterotype that women are so fragile so men have to be careful around them. Please, if that is not a bunch of crap. What about the men? Like it has been said, the man cheats he is labeled a loser and the women are treated like a queen. But when the women cheat it is okay because the man was a loser. When do men get a break? Everyone has the right to be happy in a relationship. I had to breakup with a guy I was dating because he was cheating on me. Did I fall apart, no. I learned to deal with it. Since there is a website for the ex-girlfriends to share all the dirty secrets about the ex-boyfriends, shouldn't there be a website for men as well? Who knows there just may be.

I just love the way everyone is assuming this woman is guilty of an affair just because her husband says she is... a husband who wanted out of his marriage and used this excuse to explain away his shortcoming (i.e. posting his intent to divorce his wife online). IF she was having an affair, he has every right to divorce his wife, but he should at least have the decency and integrity to tell her so before broadcasting to everyone they knew.
Even if his wife were having an affair, it's he, not her, who was broadcasting it (thereby humiliating himself). Whatever the case may be, he could have handled things a lot better.

Gives new meaning to "saving face."
This is possibly even worse than Carrie Bradshaw's post-it note breakup debackle. What next-- a text message declaration?
BobbiFeb 11th 2009 3:58PM
Actually that HAS happened before.

Her coming home to find her things thrown on the street would have been an effective way of saying "I'm dumping you"
She showed him no honor or dignity as a wife.
He owes her nothing,
AprilFeb 11th 2009 4:20PM
I think she had it coming! Imagine how he felt when he found out she was cheating on him.
andyFeb 11th 2009 4:06PM
it's probably better than having the cops stop by your house and arrest you. "Oh, i guess it's over" but over the medium that's nothing new, I mean how many celeb's learned they no longered had a job that way?

Adultery murders the heart of the faithful. All of this is so sad. Marriage is a Holy Covenant.
