Dentist-Drugged YouTube Kid's Dad Talks to the WSJ
Most of you have seen it, and many of you that have are probably still laughing. It's the video of eight-year-old David DeVore's now-famous tirade on the way back from the dentist, after being sedated. Simply put, it is one of the funniest things we have ever seen.
On young David DeVore's ride home from having a tooth pulled, the heavily sedated youngster began spazzing out (while his father filmed). The video was first posted on Facebook, then on YouTube, and has since garnered more than 7 million views since (and inspired the inevitable remix).
Some party-poopers, however, have called the video exploitive ("Don't you see you're exposing your own kid to public humiliation," commented one YouTuber). We obviously assume that these people were born without a funny bone and are hell-bent on destroying everyone else's good time.
Defending himself in an interview with the Wall St Journal, David's dad (also named David), said: "I felt bad doing it but I had tears coming out of my eyes after it was over because it was just hilarious." In the same WSJ piece, young David (who was called in from playing to talk on the phone with the reporter) said he was "excited" about the whole thing.
We at Switched have a very simple message to David Jr. and Sr.: Thank you! [From: Wall Street Journal]
YouTubes Funniest Kids
'I Don't Like You, Mommy'
Check out the little booger who explains to his "Mommy" that, while he does love her, he only likes her sometimes. Namely, when she's giving him cookies. Give the kid some points for honesty.
Laughing Baby
While not a freak-out in the traditional sense, this baby's astronomical level of cheerfulness would qualify as freaky, if it weren't so dang cute. Anybody who's watched this video and not cracked a smile is officially soulless.
Kid Breaks Gameboy
This man-child, unhappy with the responsiveness of his Game Boy, gets up and dashes it against the sidewalk. He is above pictured with said device's remains.
Dizzy Kid
This tot's parents gave him a thorough spinning session on a piece of playground equipment, leaving the toddler to weave around the playground like a man drunk. Until he slams into a swing set, that is. Whoops!
'Charlie Bit Me!'
This adorable pair of British brothers seem to be a picture of sibling harmony until the younger (the bald one) gives his big brother a healthy chomp on the finger. While the angry German gamer proved that a German accent makes tantrums even scarier, Charlie's brother proves that a proper English accent makes whining sound like a civil complaint.
Kiddo on Laughing Gas
In yet another installment of 'Drugged-Out Kids on Their Way Home From the Dentist,' this young man speaks incoherently and struggles to walk a straight line while his dad mans the camera. Somehow, we don't think this kid's quasi-celebrity for drug-addled behavior bodes well for his future.
The Angry German
When his computer doesn't load his video game quickly enough, this kid freaks out and proves once and for all that American children do not have a monopoly on obnoxiousness. Plus, hollering is far scarier in German.
The Foul-Mouthed Gamer
We're not sure if this guy technically qualifies as a "kid" or not, but -- judging from his behavior -- his social development halted around the age of two. As he gets increasingly frustrated with his Xbox game, the brat unleashes a chain of cuss words that would make a sailor blush.
The Red-Headed Spazzer
Participating in what seems to be be a Sunday School sing-along, this little fellow has as much fire in his gut as he does on his head. While the class demurely sings, he jumps, spins around and yelps gibberish to his heart's delight. The movie 'Problem Child' may or may not have been based on this young man's story.
Puppets Are Scary
We have to admit that puppets are a little creepy. That being said, nobody around here has ever freaked out upon seeing them like this little guy does as he, screaming, jumps and twists around in his seat.

There is absolutely nothing funny about the video. It actually borders on stupid. I do agree that the dad should not have posted the video of his son sedated. It just shows poor judgement. I have three kids of my own and would never do that to them. The video has ZERO humor. At what point were we supposed to laugh??
lindaFeb 10th 2009 8:21PM
Shame on you, what kind of a parent are you who would film your child and put it on the internet for people to see. This is so sad.
TabbyFeb 10th 2009 10:45PM
This is really a sad site. My children went to their dentist from the time their first teeth came in. When they had to have teeth cleaned or anything else, most children were lightly sedated. When the dentist finished his work, children were assigned to a dental assistant and the dental assistant would stay with the child until they were awake and COMPLETELY out of effects of anestheia. The dentist came out to see us and told us what had been done, how children's teeth, gums, etc were doing and what needed to be done and when to make the next appointment. By the time children are reunited with their parents ALL effects were gone. THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE. This is exploiting a child as far as I'm concerned.

My two kids are never sedated for dental visits. That would be HORRIBLE. Why would they need sedation for a simple cleaning? That's way over-the-top. I also do not leave the room when my kids are being worked on. If they are concerned about anything, I am there to comfort them. The sensations were new at age 2, and they did need a hand holding, but now there are no issues. Drug my kids? never.

That child should have been kept longer at the dentist office. The father is lucky his little boy didn`t do anything to harm his self.If you listen to the child he actually begging for help from the drug induced feelings he is having.I think mom should bring her son to the dentist with a trusted aunt or grandma next time. There`s nothing funny about a child having hallucinations in the back seat of a car and his own father recording it.I think it`s abuse.
SBLEGACYFeb 10th 2009 11:24PM
Yeh, it totally was abuse.....
Seriously, are you kidding?
JohnFeb 11th 2009 4:25PM
Agree 1000%
Travis TastromFeb 16th 2009 6:01PM
You have to calm down. This in no way constitutes abuse. The father was obviously paying attention to his son, and the kid never came close to harming HIMself or anyone else. Those also seemed to be very anti-male comments. His mother should bring him with a trusted aunt or grandma? What about a trusted uncle or grandfather? Get off your high horse and get a life.
btipFeb 18th 2009 6:41AM
Holy Camole. A trusted aunt or grandmother over the child's parent???? How about a trusted uncle or Grandfather. Only a female will suffice?????
Ring, ring. it's the 21st century calling....better answer
LindaFeb 10th 2009 8:27PM
Well...it was truly hard for me to sit through that whole thing. I have a great sense of humor but my heart was breaking for the poor little guy who was clearly distressed by what he was feeling. However, I DID make it through to the end, and the slo mo replay of the primal roar was beyond funny! Little David should enjoy watching that at his bachelor party some day.
DinaFeb 10th 2009 10:54PM
that was absolutely hilarious! ty david's dad! as a mother of 4 i can appreciate this video for what its worth :)
jewelbabeeFeb 11th 2009 1:13AM
What else could the dad have done really? I mean the kid was legally drugged and just needed to work it out of his system. He didn't film it with the intent of showing it, he was just filming his son acting goofy. He probably showed it to a few people (including his son) and decided that the world should enjoy it too. So thank you David(s)!
DaveFeb 10th 2009 8:37PM
I didn't find it funny. I found it boring. So the kid feels weird and wants to know if the effects will be permanent, but he wasn't falling over stupid - which can be funny in the right circumstances, or horrifying in the wrong circumstances.
DianaFeb 10th 2009 8:41PM
Personally I guess I must be missing something....I just was not very amused. I didn't even laugh when I watched this. Kind of sad that this is the kind of thing that apparently can amuse America!!
jayFeb 10th 2009 8:46PM
this Dad is an idiot.
MeganFeb 10th 2009 8:48PM
First off, what kind of dentist would sedate a CHILD like that? Novacane wasn't enough? I have had teeth pulled, and have Never been sedated like that. That video is not funny. It's horrible. It should not have been posted for the entire world to see. He is 8 years old. The dentist, if he or she was a good one, should have REFUSED to sedate him.
CherieFeb 10th 2009 9:12PM
Megan,
If you had really listened to the video, you would have heard them talk about that child having STITCHES! This means that the dentist had to CUT the teeth out. I'm sure having the child sedated was much easier on him than seeing a scapel coming at his face.My daughter was sedated when she was a child to have teeth removed after she broke them jumping rope. It is less tramatic for the child. I see nothing wrong with this video. The child is excited because he is now famous. People are such hypocrites! I bet most parents have embarassing photos and videos of their kids they like to pull out when friends and love interest come over!
RWFeb 14th 2009 10:04PM
Man get a life. Can't people see when a child is adlibbing a bit. I assure you, he would not have been released still heavily sedaTED. hOW DO WE KNOW seriously what part of this may just be a kid messing with his dad although of course feeling some effects. He is on video and many kids, my grandson for one, loves to put on a show. So ridiculous you semming to be do gooders that just need to get a life!
G-MoneyFeb 10th 2009 11:51PM
did u not pay attention?? he wasnt getting a tooth pulled. he was getting stitches in his mouth. obviously novacaine wasnt enough.
DreamerGigglesFeb 11th 2009 7:04AM
"First off, what kind of dentist would sedate a CHILD like that?" -Any decent dentist who was stitching up a child's mouth. Would you prefer they tired him down and did it without pain medications?
"Novacane wasn't enough?" Novacane doesn't work on all people and isn't strong enough for all procedures.
"I have had teeth pulled, and have Never been sedated like that."
Than you should count your lucky stars you've never had anything serious enough to warrant it.
"That video is not funny. It's horrible. It should not have been posted for the entire world to see. He is 8 years old. The dentist, if he or she was a good one, should have REFUSED to sedate him." Again, would you prefer they tied the child to the dentist chair rather than sedate them? What would you have them do to your own child?
