Which TV Stations Will Make the Digital Switch on February 17?

Well, Congress may have postponed the mandatory digital TV switch from analog to digital until June, but some stations around the country will go ahead with the switch anyway (up to one-fifth, according to USNews writer David LaGesse). That could mean up to 500 of the 1,700 stations around the country that eventually will make the conversion.
The full list of stations that will make the change on February 17 hasn't been released yet, since the FCC is giving broadcasters until February 9th (Monday) to notify them of their switchover plans, but plenty of stations from Vermont to Washington State, have already decided to go ahead with it. We've compiled as many as we could find below, but the number is only likely to grow by Monday. Check back next week for a full list.

What does this mean for you? Nothing, if you own an HDTV or digital TV, but if you've been relying on that old TV set your parents gave you ten years ago or are partial to portable TVs, you may need to shop for a new television or get yourself a converter box. (Luckily, HDTVs are quite affordable these days).
Here are reports about the stations, so far, that have decided to make the digital switch anyway.
- Local Stations in Seattle
- KBAK, Bakersfield, CA
- WKOW and WISC, Madison, WI
- All TV Stations in Vermont
- WZTV, Nashville, TN (and possibly some other TN stations)
- WHIO-TV (Channel 7), WKEF-TV (Channel 22), WRGT-TV (Channel 45), Dayton, OH
- Local Stations in Jacksonville, FL (still in discussion)
- Charlotte, NC local stations (with up to half in all the Carolinas estimated)

LET'S GET THIS DIGITAL CONVERSION DONE NOW!!!!!!!!! NOT IN JUNE LIKE OBAMA WANTS. KOODOS FOR ALL THE STATIONS THAT ARE GOING TO DO IT ON FEB 17 TH AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE BEFORE OBAMA TOOK OVER THE COUNTRY. AS WE CAN SEE THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE ARE READY, SO FOR ALL THOSE CRY BABIES WHO ARE HOPING TO GET A FREE CONVERTER BOX... WELL TOO BAD....YOU HAD ENOUGH TO BE PREPARED!!

HD over the air, man. Best way to watch. Awesome picture and it's free. :-) We've been ready ever since we dropped cable.

I wished that the digital transition took place this month as well...BUT I can understand that for the most part it is a safety concern more than "those cry babies hoping to get a free converter box"...if some natural disaster occurred we'd never hear the end of how "people didn't have a converter box to watch tv to inform individuals via the emergency broadcast network."
and i love how Barack Obama gets blamed for the delay of the transition...he has little to nothing to do with it except for voicing the concern of 6+ million americans

It has been over three years since congress mandated the switch from analog to digital.
We need to get it done now to free up the frequencies for the first responders and other emergency services. I have already seen digital converter boxes being sold on eBay. Extending the deadline will only allow people to use the discount coupons to purchase the converter boxes then turn around and make a profit reselling them.
