This is really not funny. I got a case of viral meningitis in 2001 from a poolside mosquito bite. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. This is like spraying people with contaminated blood to raise aids awareness... what a maroon

Erm... no its not.
Contaminated blood would 100% contain said disease.
There's nothing to say that those mosquitos were carrying anything (raised in secure labs, why would they be?). Male mosquitos don't bite either.
Besides, as far as I'm concerned, too rightly. Why should these people be ignorant to what millions of people worldwide have to face everyday. Atleast here they have the treatment and finances to recover from it.
Its not meant to be funny, its meant to make people stop and think - and its succeeded in that.

Did you know that 50 million people world wide have been exterminated by the proliferation of these little buggers since DDT has been outlawed. But the environment is doing very well, so its all smiles then.

I THINK YOU MEAN MORON not "maroon"

Danielle, I think (hope) Holly was being funny with her spelling of "maroon" for moron. I call people "maroons" often, it's not that funny but isn't as harsh either.

I'm with you. I also got viral menigitis, but in 1999. I never figured out what caused it for sure, but the grass was being over-watered at my condo and that left standing water, so my best guess was that I had been bitten too. Not a very smart move for such a brilliant guy.

"What a maroon" is from Bugs Bunny. Holly very well have ment exactly what she said.

Yes I said Maroon on purpose... and It's from Bugs Bunny... Even if the mosquitos had been raised in labs all they had to do was bite one infected person and then bite another person and bodily fluids are shared. That is precisely how mosquitos spread disease. And, It's not as simple as going to the doctor and getting better.. some of these illnessess are life threatening, chronic, or incurable. AIDS and Hepatitis C are examples. The Meningitis I had caused some permanent damage.

Oh Holly...
1. You absolutely CAN NOT contract AIDS from a mosquito bite. Please do some research before you make such absurd statements.
2. I'm sorry to hear about your bout of meningitis, really. However, comparing this to malaria is like comparing the second world war to two toddlers beating each other with fluffy toys. I'm sorry for trivialising your personal well-being, but that's unfortunately how it is. Bear in mind also that the most common cause of viral meningitis is person to person contact. Mozzies are innocent in most cases and when they are to blame, they actually carry other viruses and the meningitis is a highly unlikely secondary infection. Also, while viral meningitis is pretty serious, it is very rarely fatal, whereas malaria is almost guaranteed to be fatal if left untreated for long enough.
3. Mosquitoes DO NOT spread diseases because they "bite one infected person and then bite another person". The mosquito sucks blood in, it doesn't cover itself in it. This is like saying if I ate some bad chicken and kissed you, you would get salmonellosis. As romantic as that sounds, it ain't gonna happen. The mosquito becomes a host, it isn't a blood-transfusion mechanism. The parasite needs to develop inside the mosquito first before it can spread anything. This happens with some viruses that might cause viral meningitis and notably with malaria. It cannot happen with HIV, because it does not develop in mosquitoes and unless the mozzies were specifically selected to infect Bill's audience there is absolutely no way any of them will get seriously ill. Even it there were, Bill would be the first one affected as he's the "maroon" standing on stage under the lights closest to the jar full of mozzies.

Excuse me, ANTON...
Were you embevolently aware that Mozzies is an incorrect verbage usage of the English vocabularium notwithstanding in proper maroonic terminology in your wherewithal pompous response....
...haha! I cant continue! I just had to have a little fun. Your answer was spot on, I was just having fun making up words and attempting to remove some of the seriousness in these comments! Someone forgets to type an H and Steve is ready to lose his mind!
Hey Steve! Get over yourself! (Maybe you should double check MY comment too... here -- I will giv you somthing to strss ovr.)
And to everyone else who belives in those chain letters that says for every person you forward, Bill Gates will pay you tens of thousands of dollars -- MAYBE ole Billy Boy was paying everyone in the crowd ten thousand for every mosquit--- er, MOZZIE bite they show him!

I know someone who got it simply by looking directly into the eyes of a mosquito!
