Woman Gets 21-Month Sentence for Fatal Texting-Related Crash
Texting while driving KILLS, people. We've seen people accidentally kill themselves while tapping away on their phones, and others incarcerated for getting into accidents while not watching the road, so we're sad to report that the worst case texting-while-driving scenario has happened again: An English woman, Philippa Curtis, was arrested after it was discovered that she was texting when she crashed into a parked car, killing the woman in the other car.
Curtis was texting away as she drove at 70 mph on the highway, unaware that Victoria McBryde had stopped on the side of the road to fix a flat tire. McBryde's car was struck by Curtis's vehicle, which continued on to impact multiple other cars before stopping, causing a "great deal" of property damage. Curtis was given a 21-month sentence for her crime, lighter than the four years Rachel Begg received for the similar crime in 2007 -- maybe too light. [From: textually.org]
