Online Game Recreates Heroic Hudson River Plane Landing
Naturally, you've heard the story of US Air Flight 1549, which was successfully crash-landed into the Hudson by a dedicated and amazing crew. That crew got its 15 minutes of fame at the opening ceremonies before Super Bowl XLIII, but now you can play the hero yourself in a free, Web-based Flash game that lets you re-create the challenging landing.
'Hero on the Hudson' was created quickly by Orb Games Limited, supposedly to "remind everyone about this miraculous event," but we're also thinking that selling a few more advertisements was also on people's minds. Either way, the 1.5 million plays the game has received in its first week is serious Internet traffic.
The game was deliberately made to be ridiculously simple (it actually took us three tries to crash), but if you still want to give it a shot, just start clicking above! [From: Gadling and Propeller]

alright pomdeterre (or should I say potato in french? it figures the self-righteous activist in this board is french), I have to sourly disagree with you. Yes the game was made in questionable tastes, but you cannot compare a situation where the outcome is death, rape, and/or torture, to a situation where not a single person was killed/raped/tortured. Yes the events were scary, and if it weren't for the pilot and crew, people would have died. But making those comparisons is more than just a bit far fetched, its ludicrous. I'm not saying I'm too fond of the subject matter on the game, but the game is harmless, there's no graphic depiction of death and carnage anywhere unlike Grand theft auto, or JFK: Reloaded (the game made by a terrorist affiliate, depicting the assassination of John F. Kennedy, by putting you in control of Lee Harvey Oswald). So before you get all self-righteous activist on everyone here saying this game is no big deal, how about you settle down and stop making Mt. Everest out of your local mountain's bunny slope.
IF YOU WERE IN MY SHOES.....Feb 3rd 2009 11:21AM
This is just plain SICK!!!!! If any of you have ever been in a situation during a crash landing or in a horrific car crash, train crash or any other devastating situation, you would NOT find this humorous at all!
Thankfully this Pilot had the expertise to guide his crew and the aircraft to safety, but how would you feel if the outcome was different? Hell, how would you feel if you were on this flight or had friends or loved ones on this flight? My guess is that would be a whole different story on your part.
Many of you sit there behind the safety of a computer screen spewing venon or making snide uncalled for remarks. But I would bet my life on it that if any of you inconsiderate morons were placed in a horrific situation such as this, your remarks would be much different.
Each of the Crew and Passengers are either a Mother, Father, Daughter, Son, Sister or Brother of someone and I am sure none of them find this entertaining.
As for telling me to "lighten up".....well "Until You Walk In My Shoes & Experience What I Have", maybe, just MAYBE then you can make that statement! Until then, have some respect for the people of FLIGHT 1549 and all other mishaps!

"if if if".... the fact of the matter is it DIDN'T end differently than it did. What happened, happened. What I don't understand is why idiots like you always try to change the way other people feel by changing the situation to have a different outcome. You won't ever win an argument like that, I can assure you.
I am not discrediting the pilot, or the crew, I'm not even saying the game was made with good taste. But for the love of god, what exactly makes the content of this game so "evil" that you actually waste your time trying to convince the masses of people here who see very little wrong with it, and make yourself out to be the "crazy activist."
Don't get me wrong, I've been in several bad accidents. I was run off the road by a drunk driver behind the wheel of a sixteen wheeler, and had half my arm amputated because of how badly it was cut up and broke by the glass and impact of the car. It was a horrible accident, but whats done is done, I feel some bitterness towards the driver, but I'm not gonna skulk about it the rest of my life. That would be an even greater waste of time than yelling at everyone to "walk in your shoes" over something so insignificant and small (yes, it is insignificant because it doesn't depict anything brutal and graphic, let alone glorify or even show death).
I'm not saying you're wrong, there is something slightly twisted about the subject matter this game based itself off of, however, the reactions you and "french potato" (pomdeterre) have are a bit over the top on something to mundane.

Pom, Don't take it so personal. Look up the definition of the word game. You must live a boring life and you went to the extreme on this one w/your comments, murder, rape, etc... No one died on the flight, a couple of broken legs were the most. Get a life and quit your bittchen.

Boo Hoo Walk in my shoes. Your screen name says it all. Get over it it's a dam game. enjoy your life rather then dwell on things. I was on a cruise ship that sank in the atlantic. I will never aboard a ship again but I'd play a game that replicates the whole ordeal. I chalk it up to a learning experience and just thankful to be here and play games such as these. Stop the weeping and go see a doc...

I understand that tragedy happens and that when it happens to a person that anything related to that tragedy stirs up deep emotional anguish. I wouldn't even begin to think that I could comprehend the emotional toil that goes on inside a person when they have lost someone in a tragic way.
On the same note though you are the minority. Whereas people who have lost someone in a plane crash see this game as a reminder of their loss. The majority of us that haven't lost someone in this manner see this game as an affirmation that good things can come out of tragic situations.
Someone likened this game to one where you are a drunk driver slamming into another car and killing a family. Where it places you in the shoes of a person trying to do damage to human life. But to me that isn't the point of the game. The point of the game is to prevent the destruction of the plane. To save lives. I personally would compare this game to one where you are a cop trying to pull over and arrest drunk drivers before they end up killing someone.
At the very least I sympathize whith those that see this game as offensive, but you should realize that your feelings are just that, your feelings. Not the governing moral rule that should be upheld by everyone so that you can feel better. Most people see the good message that is trying to be portrayed. Unfortunately your personal experiences will not allow you to see it as well.
