8. Burger King - Find Herb the Nerd (1986)
Burger King intended to begin a $40-million USD nationwide campaign in which restaurant goers could claim cash prizes if they identified "Herb the Nerd" -- a pigeon-toed, Rick-Moranis-look-alike mascot that traveled the country - at their local local BK. America didn't bite however, and the Nerd (who had supposedly never eaten a Burger King burger) went down in ad history as one of the worst campaign failures ever.
