Well, if this kid were mine and were to hit her mother (who would obviously be my wife), I might be enticed to smack him across the face or, failing that, send him off to a reputable military school.

The "YouTube" thing was about another instance of a kid on XBox Live who was complaining and cussing out his own mother, just because they weren't going to take him to Taco Bell to get a chalupa.

He unintentionally (or so it seems) broadcast this exchange over XBox Live, where others could hear it and one recorded the feed (about 27 minutes) and put it up as a multi-part video on YouTube.

Beat a Child, Save a Life.

Seriously, the life you save could be your own. You spank a child to teach them what's wrong, what's not acceptable, and respect for authority figures. Spanking children was a way to save your child from 1. messing with someone much bigger who could potentially hurt them and 2. not realizing or appreciating consequences of their actions and decisions. Finally, spanking your child instills a sense of fear in you as the parent - not fear as in Jason, Friday the 13th or a DANGER, but fear as in a healthy respect, like one should love but also fear God. This "fear" can ultimately save your life, as your child wouldn't dare try to kill you.

There you go - Beat a child Save a life - The child's, another person's, or even your own.

Corporal punishment will only make internal the hate/disrespect that in cases like this is external, and while that's less worse in a moral sense, it's also less healthy for your son's mind (and you wonder why there are so much psychological problems in the U.S.)

You're just doing it wrong all around... I'm a very young teenager, none of my parents ever used corporal punishment, and while I hate to be "proud", judging by most people's actions, I consider myself fairly better educated than most people I've dealt with.

Don't let your kids watch TV or play videogames until they have a fairly good criteria/criterium (I don't know the exact term, english is not my native language), don't let them play with other kids if you see the other kids are not a good influence, always teach them the good and the bad without yelling and explain why... That's what my parents did, and most parents don't do. I work well, other teenagers clearly don't. (Or just do it superficially)]]>Jan 28th 2009 10:22PM
