Where to Experience the Inauguration Online

If you couldn't get to D.C. to see the inauguration today, or just didn't feel like fighting with the crowds, you have plenty of options for keeping up with the action, without going outside. Of course, every news network has its cameras poised to capture all the action it can, but if you're not near a TV you can still keep up with things, thanks to a range of online services (compiled by Google's Lat Long Blog) and a ton of other alternatives that we've found while perusing the Web. With the number of streams, photos, and even Twitters being uploaded today, this is without a doubt the most watched (and most digital) inauguration in history.

Head after the break to see where you can experience the inauguration online.

CNN.com - Your view of history
This custom layer over Google Maps gives you quick access to people's iReports, and this custom view will feature photos and videos submitted by users as events happen.

Oprah.com - On-the-Scene Updates from Washington D.C.
Oprah's producers are using Google Maps to chart their "adventures" and provide quick access to streaming videos of today's events.

WashingtonPost.com - TimeSpace: Inauguration
The Washington Post brings you an interactive map, which features photographers and videographers uploading images and footage live from around the city. All of the content is tagged geographically so that you know just what's going down where.

The Wall Street Journal - The Journal Guide to the Obama Inauguration
The WSJ may not have live updates of what's going on as it happens, but it does have one of the better online maps to show you when and where things are scheduled to happen. So, if you are going out to take it all in first-hand, you might want to check this out first and chart your course.

CNN's Streaming Video With Facebook
CNN has launched their "LIVE with Facebook" stream of the event, which lets you watch the inauguration while also exchanging comments with Facebook friends. It's like everyone getting together -- even when everyone can't get together.

Boston.com's Interactive Guide to the 56th Inauguration
The Boston Globe has an interactive guide to everything you need to know about the inauguration, including security details, who's who in the parade, and exactly how many VIPs get to sit behind the stage (1,000).

HBO's WE ARE ONE
HBO isn't streaming today's festivities live, but it does have a high-quality recording of the festivities from this past Sunday available for viewing. If you have a few hours to spare, it's definitely worth your time.

Twittering the Inauguration
Twitter is becoming more and more prevalent in global events, and today is no exception. You can quickly see what people are saying about the day's events, and join in yourself by writing "#inauguration" in your tweets!
