Are Cell Phones Too Complex? Survey Says... Yes!
We love our toys here at Switched. But for all our fawning, we have to admit that sometimes we wish our technological doodads were a little easier to set up and use.According to a recent survey by Mformation some 61-percent of you think your cell phones are too complex. Manufacturers and providers are constantly adding new features with little consideration to whether the new abilities are easy to use, or if customers even want them.
Just a few short years ago, you were on the cutting edge if cell phone had a color screen. Now if your phone doesn't have a TV tuner, GPS, 3G, a touch screen, and a blender. people wonder what you spent your money on. The problem is many people don't make use of all the features of their fancy phone, often because they don't want to spend the time setting everything up.
Matthew Bancroft, spokesman for Mformation said that setting up a new phone should take no more than 15 minutes, but often consumers spend over an hour trying get a new handset to do what they want. And we can tell you from experience if you're only spending an hour tweaking your new phone, you're pretty lucky. [From: BBC, Via: Textually.org]

Well I believe its not the phone, just certain aspects of the phone. I think bluetooth can sometimes be more complicated than it should be. Also it depends on the user. A lot of people have a hard time becasue they don't really want to learn new gadgets and taskings. Theres always the manual for small problems.

As you intimated, complexity is relative to the talents of the user. That is one reason why there are so many different types of phones out there. If someone wants to buy a phone that only does what they know how to do, I am sure they could find a phone like that. That does not mean the phone is not complex. If that person has a tremendous amount of skill, then they may consider the phone to be simple. Someone without said skills might consider it complex.
