Woman Finds 'Second Life' as Avatar Prostitute

One tale that has caught the attention of many is that of Palela Alderson, a 26 year-old Italian woman, who has taken to the virtual world in order to live out her fantasy of being a prostitute. Alderson told Green Pixels in an interview that she has had a life long fascination with prostitution, and even attempted to become one in the real world. After buying a cell phone specifically for clients to reach her on and putting up advertisements, Alderson discovered should couldn't carry through with it, because she was afraid of what her family would think.
Then Alderson found out about 'Second Life.' She created an account, and took some time to get acquainted with the virtual world, but in no time at all was selling virtual sexual favors, for real cash. Anderson's avatar charges 2,000 to 3,000 Linden Dollars for her services, which translates to about $9 to $13 in real world cash.
While the money she makes in 'Second Life' in no way could compare with the income of a real prostitute, she is making cold hard cash for safely and virtually indulging in a life long fantasy. We see a "Sexuality and Meaning in Virtual Worlds" class right around the corner. [From: Wired]

You mean "pique," not"peak," you moron.

I see this all the time. I don't think many people know that it's supposed to be pique.
Since, as a culture we don't really read anything properly edited anymore (like a book) we just reinforce the same bad habits displayed by others.
Interesting angle to the article but I still find it sad that so many people are so disaffected by reality that they choose to immerse themselves in a virtual world that enables such denial and delusion.

Nevermind the the damage this world does on RL. I will admit, I am a SL member, however, I am weaning myself from the addiction. And it is just that, an addiction. Yes, it is a way to socialize and live out your fantasies in a safe environment. However, when people start falling in love with other people over this virtual reality, and real feelings are invovled, it becomes problematic, especially when you start resenting your RL spouse for not being like your SL love interest.... This world has been known to completely obliterate RL happy marriages. Gamers beware, this is not a game. This is a social networking site allowing people to create their fantasy look, to attract others. Wether it be simply friendships or more, there are real feelings and real people behind the keys.
