'Sexting' Teenagers Charged With Child Pornography

Six Greensburg, Pennsylvania high-schoolers, found out to be exchanging nude pictures of themselves via text message this past November, have now been charged with child pornography, according to FOX News.
Three unidentified girls between the ages of 14 and 15 allegedly sent nude pictures of themselves to three boys, all between 16 and 17. Apparently, the school found out when one student's cell phone was confiscated for being used during school hours. Said pictures were stored in the phone.
This news, filed under 'sexting,' comes on the heels of a similar story, having taken place on the other side of the country. There is a big difference here, though. While the Seattle teenagers were kicked off the cheerleading team, the Greensburg teenagers are being charged as criminals.

While we all know that child pornography is a problem that should be taken very seriously, we also know the difference between middle-aged men illegally obtaining images of nude pre-pubescent children and teenage girls voluntarily giving nude images of themselves to teenage boys. The former is criminal behavior, and warrants prosecution by the state; the latter is dumb, and warrants a whupping from a parent. [From: FOX News]

Can some parent on here please explain to me why a 14 year old girl gets to have a fancy camera phone in class?
maxiJan 15th 2009 2:11AM
phones without cameras are few and far between these days.

The mentality of competence or lack thereof in the USA today: The judge ruled prosecutors did not make a compelling argument that Bernard Madoff is a danger to the community or a flight risk — the two considerations in deciding whether to grant bail. This man who scammed millions of their lifes work & savings is no risk to the well being of a community, and can text away; yet teenagers flirting with each other, deserves instant confiscation and charges!
DanielleJan 14th 2009 5:17PM
well I don't think they should get charged as criminals, however they should get in trouble and be explained how bad it is, ut o n ther permanet record no way.

This is stupid. Child porn is a crime because adults victimize children to create it. So we are now holding these kids guilty of victimizing themselves? Next masturbation will be prosecuted as sexual assault on ones self. Ridiculous.
mollieJan 14th 2009 5:23PM
that was SOOOOO stupid. i think that they should not have to face crimenal carges. they sould have just put it in the news paper and of inbaresd them. that is incredibly retarded and who would do that.
obabystarJan 14th 2009 5:28PM
They should arrest the boys AND the girls. Everyone thinks this is all innocent until some perv gets ahold of YOUR kids photos and you'llbe calling for blood. Thses kids need to know this stuff is NOT funny and HARMS people..

WAKE UP GIRLS
Guys are not sending YOU naked pictures.....you are the ones degrading yourself and the guys are having a hay day.
Girls are so willing to show everything to guys.....but in a few years when they are in a relationship they will not want want their boyfriends or husbands sleeping around or going to strip clubs...because girls will be stripping and flirting with them.....it needs to stop somewhere. Let the guys work for your attention.....it's what they like to do.

i think that parents today are idiots who try to hard to be their childrens friends. why in the world would a decent parent give a child a phone with a camera. cripes... today society is filled with ignorance. and most people arent people, they are sheeple.
maxiJan 15th 2009 2:11AM
by your reasoning, then, any responsible parent should then keep their teen in solitary confinement?
teltech54Jan 14th 2009 5:40PM
You have to call the police in any instance like this. If not the school is opening itself for a lawsuit. Even though there is no way for the school to be held responsible, there is still some parent out there who will seize the opportunity to sue for a tidy sum. Because they know the idiots on the jury will find in favor of them. And who wouldn't. It may be them that wants to do the same thing someday. The problem with the judicial system today is you have corrupt judges presiding over corrupt lawyers defending anyone who will pay them for anything they can get money for. Then you have the people on the jury. There is no such thing as an honest jurist. Just idiots that couldn't get out of jury duty.

Whoever looked in that phone should be charged under the same law that makes it illegal for someone to open someone else's mail. That is just wrong. He/she was just looking to find anything on these kids, and is now going to ruin their lives before it got started because they did something stupid. Who hasn't?
TaatiitaJan 14th 2009 5:42PM
This is so laughable...America the MOST HYPOCRITICAL nation in the world..always runnin around tryin2 be heroes n saviors 2every one else while they drown in their own ignorance.most kids of these days r so untrained, manner less n ignorant tht everythin seems normal, ok n acceptable to them.kids strt hvin sex as early as 11, hvin kids of their own by 13 n thinkin they r adults by 15..HOW DISTURBING. the schl SHLDNT b charged 4 goin thru their phone cuz guess wht if anythin bad happened 2 these children the schl would have been blamed for lack of discipline n for not takin proper care of them.
RomJan 14th 2009 5:44PM
That's why I didn't buy into texting for my kids phones. There's no need for it, especially if it facilitates stupid acts. The phone is a phone. If they need to tell somebody something, dial the phone and call them to tell them. This texting is just another mindless creation to stupify our kids and generations to come.

Wow you sound so stupid. Obviously if you are a parent your kids must hate you, and if you arent i suggest you change before you do have kids. This is the modern day. Almost everyone has camera phones. And if they dont they have a camera. You are the people who have screwed this world up. Not the kids. Us kids deserve way better than what we have. Oh and guess what???? I have a camera phone and i dont send nude pics. So why should i not have one? I didnt do anything wrong. And you just insulted my parents, and lots of other parents. HEY MORON I couldn't ask for better parents. They have made my life amazing, and financially we are just getting by. So I just want you to know, YOU are the ignorant person in this society. YOU are the reason why kids do this. Its called being rebellious. GROW UP PLEASE!!!!!!

A 14 year old & a 17 year old can legally have sex...so why can't they have nude pictures of one another? Now, what these GIRLS did was STUPID...& the boys should have deleted the pictures...but these girls are MORE TO BLAME than the boys. Yes they should ALL be punished. More so the girls than the boys. No legal action is necessary. They all need to go to some type of seminar that shows the dangers of their actions. Community service wouldn't hurt. Suspension from school would be a great alternative. But it's STUPID for jailing children as if they were adults for such a tiny offense.
NKIRUKAJan 14th 2009 5:49PM
i agree with u taatiita & everyone who is makin sensible comments. first of all the person who saw the pix was wrong for goin thru the phone BIG WHOOP...he/she shld b suspensed for like 4days for so called invasion of privacy but as for the senders n recievers of the pix..they shld not only b fined,,they shld also be SPANKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wht is this world comin??this is how prostitution, exploitation,n pornography starts!n Barbara>get this dear THE SENDER IS JUST AS BAD AS THE PERSON RECEIVING EM ..so it doesnt matter if the boys sent em or the girls sent em. guys show their private parts (tiny or not) all the time,,its just tht society made it a norm to chastise girls for living in this so called MAN'S WORLD..men do the same!
deborahJan 14th 2009 6:08PM
Girls send photos to my 15 and 17 year old and the ones I have seen, I would say are porn..these girl's don't care who sees them! It's like these girls are competing to see who can their sexies pose to my 17 year old!! It's unreal! But having these girls convicted is crazy! They raent doing anything but hurting their own reputations it's like these girls dont care!
ellieJan 14th 2009 6:10PM
I don't think that they should be charged. Unfortunately things like this happen all the time--teenage girls sending nude pics of themselves to teenage guys--this time they just happened to get caught. This definitely isn't something criminal, the teenage boys aren't even 18 yet! Also it was an invasion of privacy for the teachers to go through the kid's phones.
