CES 2009 Paper-Shred-tacular

There were probably more paper shredders on the show floor, and don't worry we'll bring them to you, but we couldn't resist a quick stop at the Staples booth that was literally in the center of the press lounge here. Oddly enough, Staples actually put some fairly unique technology in their first line of branded paper shredders.
Each model has V-Track, a technology that automatically straightens out pages as you feed them through, and select models come with titanium coated blades and a sensor that prevents jams by detecting when you've inserted too many pages and refusing to start the motor. And Staples isn't above adding a little flash to the old office standby -- you'll find a blue LED inside the bin, and it makes the shredders look more like custom gaming rigs than lowly pieces of office equipment.

Staples' paper shredders are of the poorest quality imaginable. I was burned twice (and there won't be three times a charm.) I had one about three years ago; it lasted 3 months. After much arguing with store personnel, a credit toward the purchase of another one was offered. This time I used the credit toward one of Staples' top-of-the line shredders, and I purchased a two-year extended warranry with it. The warranty expired in June of 2008, and the shredder "expired" five months later. (The shredder was used in-home and quite infrequently, save for household paper such as cancelled checks.) THINK TWICE ABOUT BUYING A STAPLES' SHREDDER. EVEN ONE TIME A CHARM ISN'T WORTH IT!

PLEASE NOTE MY SUBMITTED COMMENTS REGARDING STAPLES' SHREDDERS AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE POOR (AT BEST) QUALITY MACHINES. EVEN REFRIGERATORS AND MICROWAVES WHICH ARE MORE FREQUENTLY USED THAN IN-HOME SHREDDERS, LAST LONGER THAN LACK-OF-QUALITY STAPLES MACHINE PRODUCTS.
