The History of the Internet, Animated for Your Viewing
We can't think of a better place to learn about the history of the Internet than, well, the Internet. In this eight-minute film, everything from the early days of computing to how we use the Web today is told through the use of slickly animated icons. While it doesn't go into a lot of tech jargon about how the Internet works -- this is a good thing -- the film tells why it came to be. Check it out and learn yourself something -- we sure did. During the 2000 election, Republicans claimed that Sen. Al Gore had claimed to have "created" the internet. In fact, the Senator had authored the legislation that allowed the internet to be made available to the general public. It is unfortunate that the all-important transition from exclusive military-intelligence-industrial use to public use was omitted from the video.
