Is Microsoft Dumping Vista?

Windows 7
- Faster boot time and performance.
- An improved task bar that is a little reminiscent of the OS X dock at the bottom of the desktop screen.
- Jumplists -- which reveal recently opened documents, Web pages, and common tasks when you right click on an app in the task bar.
- Improved networking, which will make setting up streaming media between devices simpler. It will also let you tell one computer to stream media from another computer to a third device like an Xbox or a Roku
- Windows 7 will also get a public beta, starting January 9, so consumers will be able to try out the new operating system. This a first for any Microsoft OS.
Window Live Services
- Partnership with Facebook that will sync LiveSpaces accounts with Facebook accounts, making Microsoft's social networking site more relevant!
- Useful search side bar in Live Hotmail that minimizes the need for switching tabs.
- Live Messenger is adding dynamic buddy icons that update according to the emoticons you use.
Internet Explorer 8
- Accelerators that add common tasks to the right click menu so you can translate text, define a word, or look up info on IMDB or Wikipedia without opening a new tab or window
Xbox 360
- Two new 'Halo' titles -- 'Halo Wars' a real time strategy game, and 'Halo 3 ODST' a more traditional 'Halo' experience.
- Xbox Live Primetime Events -- live online events that players around the world can participate in, including '1 Vs. 100' an online game show
- Kodu -- a game creation tool for kids that lets them publish their creations to the community channel

No, you really shouldn't worry about paying someone to install something else. Vista will be absolutely fine for everything you mention here. There are a few cases where it may be sensible to install XP rather than Vista, as mentioned by some others with laptops, but in the majority of cases, especially if you are not a really heavy pc user, doing gaming etc, Vista will be completely okay.
So let it out of your mind. Nothing will be wiped out, and you can enjoy your computer doing everything that you need it to. Sometimes people overreact, get heated up when talking about these things, and overlook the fact that in many cases, Vista is just fine.

Vista sucks, Threw it out and went back to XP Pro.

recently I thought I would update my 1 1/2 year old PC, so I bought a new one with vista. After 2 days I returned
it to where I bought it. & went back to this one with XP I will not buy another PC until I can get one WITHOUT
vista.

My thoughts of Vista are Bum. Nothing seems to work and of
course being a not very good with computers guy just feel its something that I am doing wrong. I was wrong OK my computer
is a bummera and have a new Thshiba Lap top that is a good machine I think, if given a chance. Vist Sucks like all the other people said and we should be given any new solution free of
charge. send the DVD on install to all of us poor folks on a fixed
income or not the new system, if it is in fact an up date. I receive
updates on everything every time I turn this thing on. constant
update. What the hell is that. HP has an update every few days
with their all in one printer and its really a nice machine and does
perfect work. prints of pictures look like picture paper on printer
paper. beautiful. got it for 85 bucks at SAMS club. Had to do away with a perfect scanner that was expensive at one time as it
wouldnt operate with my new laptop and VISTA. OH Well. some
more stuff to contend with. How come I stay with these folks.
good question. went to Comcast for a faster service and couldnt
take my favorites along with me was what Comcast told me, so
went back to the old phone line dial up, which is snail speed of
course and lots of moving pics wont work because the system
is so slow. You Tube wont work at all here. I am missing out on
a lot of stuff because of this. an old fighter pilot friend sends me
you tube things on flying and I can only wonder what the hell is on
there as they wont play. 2 seconds and it stops and the after
30 seconds I get another 2 of play. BUMMER. have to live with
my present deal because of trying to keep my favorites that I have
tons of info on and need. All for now L.B.

In the past 3 years I have had a e-machine and a compaq computer with bastard Vista in both of them costing me over $600 each. Absolutely nothing but trouble from both of them. I just purchased a refurbished Dell with Windows 2000 XP Pro for $235 with a 2 year warrenty and it is working perfectly. It has 2.8 speed, 3 gigs RAM and 500 gigs memory. By the end of the year the way the economy is going you will be able to buy a bastard Vista computer for $5.00. I will never buy a new computer again and will take my chances on a refurbished computer for a third of the price of a new computer with a decent warrenty. Also, picked up a Dell 19" monitor for $50.00. So it cost me over $1200 to learn my lesson. But never again!

I've had Vista for years, Bata then Ultimate. I love it. It's been the best operating system I've owned. My first compter in 1990 came with DOS.
I look foward to the new OS, but may stick with Vista.
JimJan 8th 2009 5:56PM
DOS was far better than those grueling holarith punch cards that we had to feed into the Sperry/Univac 90-30, or trying to program an 8080 microprocessor just to get some kind of output. Thank goodness for the GUI (graphical user interface), not to mention the invention of the mouse. Those were the days.

...................XP has become very stable and is good but I have never had any problems with Vista. Vista does push peripheral drivers towards updated effectiveness and capability which is a good thing.

My Vista program also came with the new computer which was purchased a little over a year ago.
I didn't have too many problems at first but then I started getting notices that MSIE has to shut down due to an error. We will notify you when a "fix" is found.
AOL notified me that "Main IXD" or something like that had crashed and that I'd have to reinstall AOL in order to use it at all. That being done, I tried to go to Internet explorer and the computer is telling me that it can not be located. I've asked a few so called "computer whiz kids" what could be done about that and their response is - - "we never saw that happen before, do you have Windows Vista?" The only thing that they can suggest is to go to a computer repair shop and pay them to RE INSTALL VISTA or install a previous or older version of Windows and hope to hell, you don't have to give up all of your existing programs and documents.
Any suggestions for a person who is getting slightly discouraged with Microsoft?
Thanks.

I love Vista, better then XP...even better then my Mac...don't know what you people are barking about...I just ordered my second Vista for work.....

I hate what windows vista has done to OS. I loved 97-Millenium because of its great organization and very proffesional format. I can even deal with xp, which is actually a good OS. However, vista is a pain. Not to mention, it visually looks like Mac's OS.
I think Microsoft should stick with the proffesional look, and leave all the art-sy things to Apple.
The reason I fell in love with Windows in the first place is no longer present in Vista, and from the screenshots it seems the newer version too.
Regardless, I think the problems Microsoft faced with vista cannot be ignored and will lead to the creation of an ultimately better OS, and even if it is not visually my favorite, I look forward to what Microsoft can offer.

I am on my second computer with windows Vista. The newest one acts just like the older one. Yes Vista really sucks. Don't know how much they have proffited from fools like me, but it sounds like they made off with a gold mine. (And now they are going to give it the boot?) I'll not buy another computer.
Robert WyrickJan 8th 2009 3:23PM
Thank Goodness, I build my own equipment and don't have to bother with Vista. It is Horrible!! I've had to work on so many systems with that trash. Microsoft really blew it this time. They would be way ahead if they made some kind of turn in program for the poor people who got stuck with that trash

At first i had a few issues with vista however after a week it never had a problem again. It more than likey was caused by the fact that it was a new laptop that hadn't been ran and need to be "broken." I dont think vista that bad. My only issue is finding a word key for 2007 haha

I, too, am a disgruntled Vistas victim. After six months of frustration, I purchased an HP computer with the option of installing XP or Vistas. I installed XP and absolutely love it. All my problems disappeared. My Vistas sits next to me. My laptop, however, works fantastic with Vistas! No problems with it at all.

I had Windows XP before Vista's system. I would choose
Vista over XP. I say better.
JessicaJan 8th 2009 3:30PM
Got a new Dell Inspiron yesterday on Fedex, directly from the factory...and it came with Vista. I am still having trouble on how to get connected to the internet using my cable t.v., my older computer seems to work fine..but this new Vista has something, not sure what it is. It doesn't have an Internet Wizard as the XP does.
Victoria AnnJan 8th 2009 3:31PM
I had to buy a new computer and XP was no longer available; consequently, I have to work with VISTA. I read several manuals and, in time, got used to the new features. Some were useful and others, while cool, were unnecessary. I do not like VISTA -- it does have a lot of problems and it seems to have a mind of its own. Too many auto features. The biggest problem involves VISTA's magical disappearing act. Yes, all too often while typing an e-mail, especially a long one, the entire text just spontaneously disappears. At other times, my computer will just shut itself down while surfing the NET. It's not the computer as that has been checked by professionals. I was told that others experienced the same problems. Why MS retired XP is beyond me. It was an excellent OS and I never had any problems with it. I hope the new Windows 7 will be as good as XP. MS -- are you listening? Let's have change for the better, not worse. As far as VISTA, don't retire it -- BURY IT!
