Is Microsoft Dumping Vista?

Windows 7
- Faster boot time and performance.
- An improved task bar that is a little reminiscent of the OS X dock at the bottom of the desktop screen.
- Jumplists -- which reveal recently opened documents, Web pages, and common tasks when you right click on an app in the task bar.
- Improved networking, which will make setting up streaming media between devices simpler. It will also let you tell one computer to stream media from another computer to a third device like an Xbox or a Roku
- Windows 7 will also get a public beta, starting January 9, so consumers will be able to try out the new operating system. This a first for any Microsoft OS.
Window Live Services
- Partnership with Facebook that will sync LiveSpaces accounts with Facebook accounts, making Microsoft's social networking site more relevant!
- Useful search side bar in Live Hotmail that minimizes the need for switching tabs.
- Live Messenger is adding dynamic buddy icons that update according to the emoticons you use.
Internet Explorer 8
- Accelerators that add common tasks to the right click menu so you can translate text, define a word, or look up info on IMDB or Wikipedia without opening a new tab or window
Xbox 360
- Two new 'Halo' titles -- 'Halo Wars' a real time strategy game, and 'Halo 3 ODST' a more traditional 'Halo' experience.
- Xbox Live Primetime Events -- live online events that players around the world can participate in, including '1 Vs. 100' an online game show
- Kodu -- a game creation tool for kids that lets them publish their creations to the community channel

Look, sorry, Vista lovers, but you're a little off base here. As a new (less than 1 month) purchaser of a Vista Machine, I wish I had looked harder for a refurbished XP using one... I've had porblems with IE glitching and crashing, which I never had with XP Pro, regardless of what you may think, and every, not just one, but EVERY USB device i have tried to plug into the damn thing won't work! EVERY SINGLE ONE! That is a major problem! With XP I could've built a USB chainsaw in my backyard and it wouldn't have had a problem. And this is coming from a man who switched FROM apple to XP for school. At this point I feel I should switch back because I can't find a machine with the one Windows OS that I actually found easy and enjoyed using.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I truly believe that most people who hate Vista are novice users. One guy said he bought an emerson computer from wal-mart and that Vista sucked on it - well of course it does. It's not the OS, it's the computer. If program compatibility is your issue, well then use XP, but that doesn't mean that Vista is bad - it just means you're using outdated programs. Sorry they were expensive. Vista is a very stable operating system and I have NEVER had anything but a very enjoyable experience with it.

I have Windows XP on my desktop and Vista here on my Sony Vaio laptop. The Vista is a pain in the ass! I asked some computer techs about having the laptop converted to Windows XP. They said that only if the drivers in it can handle it. If it won't load, it's a no-go on my laptop and I'm stuck with Vista. That's what I was told. I don't know if the Vaio's can handle the change or not, I guess I'll have to see and try it. What's your thoughts if you have the same situation?

I have to jump on the Anti Windows Vista bandwagon. I was running small business out of my home and I lost functionality with my fax machine. As a notary I send and receive faxes and had the ability to do so via my PC. Until I bought a new machine and went to Vista. I talked to Brother, HP and some Microsort person to try and get a resolution and nothing. I also have older versions of Corel and Photoshop that I use and they were not compatible either. I asked HP if I could get a copy of XP instead and they said NO and that would void the warranty on the machine. Long story short I went back to using my 1.? Ghz XP machine and my newer 3.? machine is just a toy. does anyone know why I get windows opening up continuously only on the vista machines? One thing I have to agree with the Vista lovers is getting rid of Norton. My machines speed up noticeably once I got that off.

I agree! I spent over $1400 for a Dell XPS 1 with Vista. I live out in the country and dialup is all that is available to me. After having the phone company test everything and trying for a month to get a decent internet speed (anything close to the slow speed I got with XP), I was told by Dell that Vista had so much running in the background that I could not get acceptable service and should return the computer. I called a different number to do this (some stupid jerk in Central America) and was told that I had had the computer over 21 days and I was out of luck (We have your money). I solved the problem. I GAVE STUPID COMPUTER AND VISTA AWAY! I got a n XP laptop off Ebay. KISS OFF DELL AND VISTA!

Let me know if Microsoft reimburses for Vista. I did not want Vista when I bought my computer and asked if I had a choice between Vista and XP and was told I could have XP but I would have to pay to have Vista taken off. I have a ongoing headache trying to use Vista. If I get the opportunity to trade my OS for XP I will in a heartbeat!

I Have Been Using Computers For Years I Purchased my first one in 1981 The operating systems has come a long way When I first got WINDOWS VISTA I did not Like it because of all the problems! The first 2 computers I purchased with VISTA I returned to the store due to the operating systems, The one I have now works ok with VISTA but was a little unstable at first. I believe some of the problems are the programs that people are trying to use are not being installed properly on Vista WINDOWS XP Programs will run on VISTA

I dont like windows vista,I had windows XP in the past and i liked that a lot better. A lot of programs requirements dont have vista. Seems that vista also has a lot of glitches.

Vista is a disaster; half my reliable older software does not run on it, DVD and CD software unusable, and it crashes more often than XP. A giant retrograde step for which I should be reimbursed in full plus damages; instead I will have to fork over more treasure to Redmond for their next half-baked POS operating system. How many times have I been swindled since MS DOS 4.2?
Maybe it's time to go Mac.
I am profoundly fed up.

I despise Vista but am stuckjust as all of us are. Have any of you seen the video of Microsofts' CEO being egged in HUNGARY???? Seems the college over there installed Vista on all their teaching computers and the students proested because it is so bad. England squelched a petition sponsored by students there as well!! Money talks ,huh???? BTW---the CEO of Microsoft pulls in a 7 figure salalry---go figure!!!!!!

I haven't had alot of problems with Vista, but its definitly not what I expected in a OS.
I cant run my DOS programs anymore and Sims 2 crashes alot. It definitly has a slower response time and I had to reinstall AIM on it. But other than that, its a pretty damn good labtop. Vista though does have alot of issues that Microsoft needs to work out. Vista probably in my opinion just looks nice and nothing else.
With some issues, they're are fixes made by independent users that can correct some mistakes. Better than nothing if you cant get a new OS.
Well, as long as Project Origin runs on it, I'll be good.
And Halo Wars and Halo 3 Recon are going to be epic fails. 360 sucks. People are just too stupid to figure that out yet. Get a Wii or PS3. PS3 Because it has 70% of the games 360 has and Wii because of its unique style.
