Is Microsoft Dumping Vista?

Windows 7
- Faster boot time and performance.
- An improved task bar that is a little reminiscent of the OS X dock at the bottom of the desktop screen.
- Jumplists -- which reveal recently opened documents, Web pages, and common tasks when you right click on an app in the task bar.
- Improved networking, which will make setting up streaming media between devices simpler. It will also let you tell one computer to stream media from another computer to a third device like an Xbox or a Roku
- Windows 7 will also get a public beta, starting January 9, so consumers will be able to try out the new operating system. This a first for any Microsoft OS.
Window Live Services
- Partnership with Facebook that will sync LiveSpaces accounts with Facebook accounts, making Microsoft's social networking site more relevant!
- Useful search side bar in Live Hotmail that minimizes the need for switching tabs.
- Live Messenger is adding dynamic buddy icons that update according to the emoticons you use.
Internet Explorer 8
- Accelerators that add common tasks to the right click menu so you can translate text, define a word, or look up info on IMDB or Wikipedia without opening a new tab or window
Xbox 360
- Two new 'Halo' titles -- 'Halo Wars' a real time strategy game, and 'Halo 3 ODST' a more traditional 'Halo' experience.
- Xbox Live Primetime Events -- live online events that players around the world can participate in, including '1 Vs. 100' an online game show
- Kodu -- a game creation tool for kids that lets them publish their creations to the community channel

I completely agree... I had a windows xp. it was designed for gaming, and was perfect. I had a problem, sent it in for repairs... and WOAH, it came back a vista? They gave me a "free upgrade." Needless to say, my computer came back working like hell. Every video game played pathetically, and I had to upgrade my video card, which didn't do anything to help. Also, normally Vista Ultimate and Vista Business Editions can be reverted back to XP no problem... but they refuse to revert Home Edition back? I don't understand, how illogical. I've encountered so many technical problems that I'm considering switching to Apple, which, in the hell of Vista, seems like a more competent company than Microsoft. I'm trying to save enough money to get one. Yeah.. I loathe vista.

I have a recommendation for those having issues with Vista -- but Microsoft has yet to figure this out themselves. If you have tons of error messages (navcancl errors for example) from loading programs in Vista, set up a second user and use that. The administrator in Vista is full of flaws. Do a search for navcncl and ieframe.dll and check out all the websites. Microsoft has given a support site for the issue saying it's due to a disconnected temporary files folder but it doesn't work for most users (including myself). They will also tell you it's an IE7 error, but if that's the case it shouldn't be fixed by changing users using the same IE7. As soon as I made a new user name and started using the same programs, the error messages went away. Of course that also means you need to move your files to the user.

There must be something wrong beside Vista on your comp if you can run that stuff, I run all Photoshop, lightroom, Indesign, Premiure, and all the rest in the Creative siute without problem. Havent had any problems with vista. Stable and solid from the laptop I got 2 years ago onto my desktop ive had for the last year.

I agree. My mom has vista, I have mac OSX and I like it a lot more. Its harder to work on my school stuff with vista, it freezes up and its slower. The one main thing its good for is the microsoft office thing, but they have that on apple now too. Oh and for gaming, but I dont do the whole gaming thing (not good at it). I personally am not going back to a pc until they have the "artsy" programs that apple does, like imovie, garage band, or the whole ilife thing altogether, and when they get a better operating system.

Apple is a PC, they invented the PC. It is the operating systems the differentiate the two, not MAC vs PC. Macentoch or Apple makes PC's with their MAC operating system. Microsoft only makes an operatingsystem, that many computers (dell, HP, gateway & so on) use. Still they are all PERSONAL COMPUTERS.

So now what happens to us poor fools that got stuck with VISTA? It's been a year of constant printer problems. MS should've paid ME for using it!!!

I agree, I thought Win Me was bad, but vista is far worse. I have lived through 7 O/S changes from these B*****ds at MS, but this is my last. Bring on an Apple. Most of the programs won't run at all and 90% of the rest run too slow. Still no *security* in this OS....
Call it what it is, a license for every worm, virus and trojan to come visit your machine. (Note Apple has few access points.)

I continually had priblems with my 4 month old LesMark printer after having to get a Vista PC. After getting no resolution from the script readers in India, I wrote a certified letter to the U.S. chief honcho describint the problem I had with the "help" desk. About a week later, I get a phone call from somebody in the company who knew what to do, & walked me through. No further problems.

Does microsoft keep turning out defective products so customers will keep buying new ones in the hope one of them will finally work? XP was an improvement over 2000, but vista was a step backwards. The XP I had worked for several years with minimal problems and then started shutting itself down, but vista has been freezing from the first day I used it, almost as bad as 2000.

Vista sucks. I got a toshiba satellite and it runs so hot that it will blister your legs, and it shuts off completely without warning. its got 1.5 gig of ram and its still slower than my girls xp toshiba, which doesnt get nearly as hot, and only has 512 mb. same exact computer only difference is shes got xp, i got sucksta
DavidJan 11th 2009 10:57AM
I had the same problem with lockup on the Toshiba Satellite until I changed the power saver setting
ChrisJan 8th 2009 3:19PM
I had a similar problem with a Dell laptop running Windows XP. It had nothing to do with the operating system. I discovered a bad ram slot. When I took the ram out of the offending slot, the computer returned to normal operating state. Just a thought that you might try.
