Web Group Games Google Trends in Tasteless Stunt

Those who use Google Trends were on the receiving end of a pretty ugly tasteless Web stunt on Tuesday: the second most popular item in the "Hot Trends" category was an image of an airplane flying into the twin towers.
"Hot Trends" is meant to track the fastest rising searches at any given moment; the prevailing theory, among search experts, is that the stunt was accomplished using "bots" to garner a huge number of hits, catapulting it onto the list. However, it did start with a user on eBaum's World, who suggested to his fellow forum dwellers the stunt to launch it onto Google Trends.
Despite this being the third time that Google Trends has been snaked in recent months (in July, a swastika appeared on Hot Trends), the company had little to say about the incident. "Hot Trends is automatically generated by algorithms and machines that are there to detect hot or breaking queries," said Gabriel Stricker, a Google spokesman. "We saw lots of queries from a number of different places in a short period of time." [From: New York Times via Buzzfeed]

If any of you posters need enlightenment or a mind refresh about what happened on September 11, 2001, allow me to be your guide. I am a retired NYC Firefighter who spend many many hours at the site, including that day. If you ever come to New York, I would start the tour at the very site, which is nothing more than a construction site now. I still get tears in my eyes when I go down there. I would then take you to the homes of the victims. Ther you will see sons and daghters without mothers and farthers. Finally, I would take you to a clinic for firefighters who have eveloped numerous illnesses, due to the time they spent working their under the "safe" conditions. We would not have time to visit other clinics that treat police officers and other workers who contributed their time whom are now sick. These clinics will soon be closed because people like ROBUYTO thinks it is a cancer to "Never Forget." The only cancer is people like you who do forget the ever increaseing problems people who were involved in the WTC Attack are still facing. The only cancer is the people who were involved down there now developing the disease. So drop me a line when you get to New York, I will be happy to share my expirences with you.

Try as you like ...you will never, ever, get anyone to forget 9/11. You are a fool if you can trivialize what happned that day. Remember..their is an ass, for every seat. Some people have to play the fool.

Rob: You are absolutely right. It's just like the Halocaust, which many people are denying ever happened because it was over 60 years ago, and very few survivors left. Former President and General Dwight Eisenhower told the troops to take as many pictures of the survivors in the concentration camps so that people could see for themselves, and wouldn't forget.

The Bush administration? You know if Clinton would have stood up to terrorists when he had the chance instead of screwing around with interns, it would not have even happened! Everything is Bush's fault right? You must be a democrat!

People won't forget 9-11 anytime soon, as they shouldn't. But
also don't forget, THIS HAPPENED ON BUSH'S WATCH ! ! !
Check out; PNAC and connect the dots on why this happened.

What a waste of a story. Google doesn't decide what people are going to search, people do.

Beezer, don't even go there!!It started on Clinton's Watch when there were sailor's killed on their ship! Let's not forget when the attacks started . Clinton did NOTHING!

Wow, a pixel plane flying into two rectangles...really offensive... I hope there isn't a mad search of porno movies...least we be given that image...
GinaJan 7th 2009 11:56PM
Personally the image looks like something from an old Atari game to me. Nothing offensive. People just want something find to complain about or sue over every single day ! They need to get a life and get out of the house more often. Maybe off the computer too then they would not see things to find fault in every thing. I'm still clueless how those look like the twin towers ? People just want to put a spin on everything. 9/11 was 9/11. It was what it was and WILL be in our hearts forever. People just need to stop trying to find something to gripe over.

We should forget? Is that what you are saying? Wow..You are definitely NOT a student of history and if you are, it's at the hands of the public screwel system....There was a famous man (well he used to be famous) that once said.."those who don't know their history (remember their history) whatever..are doomed to repeat it"..I suggest you try and remember some of these things, son..and remember that is those various things that shape our futures.

If an of you posters need enlightenment or a mind refresh of what happened on September 11, 2001 and there after, allow me to be your guide, as I am a retired NYC Firefighter who spent many many hours there. I would first take you to the WTC site, which is nothing more than a construction site now. Although, I still get a tear in my eye when I go down there. Next, we will go to the homes of the victims, where you can see sons and daughters being raised without their mothers or farthers. Finally, we will visit a soon to be closed clinic for Firefighters. The normal wait time is about 4 hours. I am using this a a reference to show you the volume of people it serves. There are other clinics which serve Police Officers and other workers that have developed illnesses working at the "SAFE" WTC site. The only cancer there is ROBUYTO is the cancer that people HAVE FORGOTTEN. The only cancer are the people now developing the disease from working down there. This was not a problem on only one day. These problems have and will cascade into the future. So when you get to new York, look me up. I you think this was a joke, I am sure to change your minds.

I'm very sorry for your losses, however I was simply pointing out the 'vengeful-esque' nature of "We we never forget". I feel that it could be very misleading for a youngster who is growing up and learning about the world and life in general. The phrase 'we will never forget' somewhat suggests that it's ok to be vengeful in life, and i surely don't feel that thats any way to live. Again I'm terribly sorry for any losses and god bless your soul for your duty to this country. but I stand by my statement.
