New Phishing E-Mails Masquerade as Fake Stimulus Payment Message

If you've received an e-mail from the Internal Revenue Service notifying you to fill out a Stimulus Payment form, it's fake. The e-mail is not from the IRS, even though it will appear to be from "stimulus.payment@irs.gov." Attached to the e-mail is an attachment named "Stimulus-Payments.form.pdf.htm." Clicking the file will redirect you to British teen chat site, imuze.co.uk.

While there appears to be no obvious harm done by clicking the file (it's not an executable virus or such), you should practice safe computing and delete the e-mail. We actually received this very e-mail today (check the screenshot above), and reported it as spam immediately. For the less tech-savvy, the IRS has a page you can refer to to help you identify fraudulent e-mails and Web sites, so read it well. If you're not up for reading the whole page, just remember that the IRS will never, ever ask for personal information through e-mail. [From: BetaNews]
