Shure USB Microphones and Adapter

Attention, garage bands: This spring, officially coming to the home-recording table, seminal microphone designer Shure will release its first two cardoid condenser USB microphones and an XLR-to-USB adapter. Known to musicians and engineers the world over for the legendary workhorse SM57 microphone, Shure brings a venerable name to the newborn digital-ready genre with these offerings. The Shure PG42, designed specifically for vocals, will sell for $249, while the PG27, an all-purpose mic suitable for podcasts, will sell for a more reasonable $199.

Each microphone promises to eradicate the monitoring delay frequently encountered with USB mics and offers an onboard 1/8-inch headphone jack and monitor level control. For those GarageBand enthusiasts or Cakewalk novices not yet ready to ditch their traditional mics, Shure presents the $129 X2U XLR-to-USB adapter, complete with the same features as its microphone cousins.
