Last year we wrote about some online discontent about Facebook's content policies. The site was
deleting some pictures of women breastfeeding, labeling them as obscene and, in the process, making many so-called lactivists rather irritated. A Facebook protest group was created but, after another recent round of photo deletions, the offended users
took their protests to the street, gathering outside of the Facebook offices over this past weekend.
Should breastfeeding pictures be allowed on Facebook?| Yes | 8136 (65.2%) |
|---|
| No | 3548 (28.4%) |
|---|
| I don't know | 790 (6.3%) |
|---|
The photos range from rather tame to some that might make some viewers uncomfortable, largely thanks to the exposure of nipples, but many of the supposedly deleted photos (
collected here if you care to see) show virtually nothing at all -- just mothers holding their children. So, is Facebook over-reacting when it removes these pictures, or is it doing the right thing in trying to keep its site clean? [From:

My wife nursed 3 of our 4 children(Girl,Boy,Boy,Girl) She got a masticas infection and Was unable to nurse the first one. Now 34 years latter I can see the difference in the 4 kids. She nursed until they were about 2 at least at night, and as I said I can see the difference. the last 3 go to bed better and sleep better than the first one. I can only say it was because of nursing. It does make a difference. You have a problem if you get turned on by a nipple. You should get turned on by an area much lower on her body!
for those nursing try looking up the LaLachey League for help both wife and husband. Thanks for looking

Ok! Don't use breastfeeding as an excuse to bare all to the public. It is slightly offensive to see a half-bare woman-and I am a woman! It's beautiful to see a nursing baby and cherish the memories and whatnot but some memories are to be shared between a few, not everyone. It is selfish to think it's not affecting others. I have a little sister that is on facebook and a little brother that I'm sure will be on facebook soon and I don't want them running into that. Some of those photos are innocent and sweet but some are are just too much. Breastfeeding is NOT AN EXCUSE to bare your breasts like you're waiting for beads to be tossed around your neck.
Again I say, nothing is wrong with breastfeeding, nor is doing it in public or taking photos of the moment. But taking advantage of it because you are a borderline nudist doesn't mean you should subject the public to it (talking to the bare women). You just found a loophole in the rule-and it's not a bad rule.
Keep the boob in the baby's mouth!!! You can't have a picture of your breast and expect it to be "ok."

Oooooowweeeeee, cat-fight. Sounds like somebody's a little bit jealous? A little bit green with envy -- huh? Personally, I'm a leg man. If you've seen two breasts, you've practically seen um all. Short skirts and pretty legs does the trick for me.

Facebook is a private business, and it does have rules. Regardless of what the breast was being used for it still violates the use agreements on Facebook. Instead of saying that this is a beutiful moment, stop and realize that that doesn't matter in this case. Facebook is fully responsible for maintaining an environment which is safe for all users. And to those of you who say that these women had these photos only available to friends, thse women have further proved that they have no real intention of modesty, they are now posting their pictures for the entire world to see on that website. Personally i think that the view on nudity in this country is ridiculous, but facebook, is a loud to manage the content on their site and doesn't need your approval. If you don't like their rules than you should have checked the box saying that you agreed to the terms,

In this day and age why are some people still so uptight about womens breasts? Showing a womans nipples is a lot easier to take than those fat hairy middle aged guys that strut around on the beach in a speedo....Now THATS gross. Besides most of the women in those pictures wouldnt exactly get a second look from me or any of my friends anyway. The only thing that bothered me was some of those kids looked way too old to still be breast fed, I just worry about the effect that could have on the child.

Breastfeeding is as natural as breathing ... BUT why any Mother would chose to display a picture of her nursing on Facebook is beyond my comprehension???

Maybe this is more about the financial power of the bottle feeding industry/advertisers. Breast feeding doesn't require many purchases.

While *I* would never post such photos of myself breastfeeding, I don't see the big deal. I have to wonder if there would be such an uproar if the photos depicted a topless skinny woman on the beach.

I can't help but wonder: Are those who find this photo objectional the same folks who championed Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter's pregnancy? If a pregnant, unwed minor can stand in the glare of the national spotlight surrounded by her "loving family" and be hailed for her decision NOT to have an abortion then how can one protest the image of a mother nurturing her child? What's the difference between the picture of a unwed teen's swollen stomach and a milk-swollen breast? I thought support and understanding were supposed to be "family values!"

As long as the breast is beautiful (perky, natural and SEXY), yesiree......! !

As a mother who breast fed all four of my children, I am appalled by the narrow view of ignorant people. I had my first child in Canada and it was as natural as the mothers here, who stick a bottle in their kids mouth. There is nothing erotic about seeing a woman breast feed their child, unless you are a pervert!!! However, I did cover myself and never just whiped it out. There should be some discretion. It is beautiful bonding between mother and child and is also healthier.

Facebook is a company that can set it's own policies. While breast-feeding is a natural thing, it is just ridiculous for women to post pictures of their babies nursing. These whiny women that want to post their pics just need to go find something to do that really matters, like working at a homeless shelter - instead of wasting energy complaining about not being able to post their tacky pictures. Grow UP!!!!

Last time I checked, feeding children was the purpose of the female breast in the first place. I think it's fine.
