Racist E-Mails About Obama in Alaska, State Investigates

In the wake of racist comments about Barack Obama circulating in e-mails among Alaskan state employees, state officials are launching an investigation, according to an AP report in CBS News.

Apparently, until the AP became privy to five of these e-mails, the state government was unaware. After performing a search, officials at the Department of Administration confirmed the presence of three of the e-mails on the state e-mail system, notified Governor Sarah Palin's office, and made public comment.

"It's embarrassing to the state," Administration Commissioner Annette Kreitzer said.

While disciplinary action is being pursued for the publicly-unidentified perpetrators, state officials are quick to point out that these e-mails sprung from the outboxes of an unrepresentative few.

While 'jokes' that hinge upon ugly stereotypes are ignorant in of themselves, these hateful folks are ignorant on another count, as well. At this point, every corporate, let alone state, employee should know that whatever he says in an e-mail can -- and probably will -- be read by his boss. Two of Mama's sayings come immediately to mind here: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all; and don't write down anything you wouldn't want printed on the front page of the paper.

Those two maxims are ones every self-respecting Joe Sixpack should by know. [From: CBS News]
