Racist E-Mails About Obama in Alaska, State Investigates

In the wake of racist comments about Barack Obama circulating in e-mails among Alaskan state employees, state officials are launching an investigation, according to an AP report in CBS News.
Apparently, until the AP became privy to five of these e-mails, the state government was unaware. After performing a search, officials at the Department of Administration confirmed the presence of three of the e-mails on the state e-mail system, notified Governor Sarah Palin's office, and made public comment.
"It's embarrassing to the state," Administration Commissioner Annette Kreitzer said.
While disciplinary action is being pursued for the publicly-unidentified perpetrators, state officials are quick to point out that these e-mails sprung from the outboxes of an unrepresentative few.
While 'jokes' that hinge upon ugly stereotypes are ignorant in of themselves, these hateful folks are ignorant on another count, as well. At this point, every corporate, let alone state, employee should know that whatever he says in an e-mail can -- and probably will -- be read by his boss. Two of Mama's sayings come immediately to mind here: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all; and don't write down anything you wouldn't want printed on the front page of the paper.
Those two maxims are ones every self-respecting Joe Sixpack should by know. [From: CBS News]

What retards... This is the government computer system and trust me, they will trace it and get the moron (I know, I work for the Feds). State email is not AOL or Yahoo.

THE PRESIDENT- ELECT, HAD TO KNOW THESE AND PROBABLY OTHER CRITICISM WERE ON THE HORIZON PRIOR
TO HIS EMBARKATION. AS THE CAPTAIN OF HIS SHIP HIS SKIN WILL HAVE TO BE EXTRA THICK COME JANUARY 20.

Uh hello - there is this thing called the first amendment. Also, just because someone forwarded an email with racial stereotypes in it does not make someone a racist, "ignorant" or "hateful". Tyra Banks say negative things about whites all the time - so does Oprah - so does Al Sharpton. Are these african americans being investigated? Sharpton received Federal funds for his campaign. Oprah has been given tax exempt status for her Black-only charities...why are only whites being investigated for emailing something negative about Obama. Sexist things were said of Palin...no one is investigating that. Soon - it will be a jailable offense to refer to a black person as "ghetto." Which is all these emails really did.

Uh hello... This is the government computer you are talking about. You cannot use it for personal purposes or to express your personal opinion. It has nothing to do with 1st Amendment. As a government employee. the FIRST thing they tell you is that when you use the government property, it is ONLY for work purposes, it is NOT for the purpose of expressing your personal ideas, personal emails, leisure internet browsing, etc. I work for the government, I know.
JasonMar 10th 2009 11:12AM
I agree with you, the amendments have gone out the damn window. Seems they have been replaced with politically correct bull. It's not a free country anymore when you can not even have an opinion without being fired or fined or worse.

For 8 years Bush has been the worst president ever but not did i ever hear a racist comment against him. I say the CIA should investigate every threat...every comment, and whoever is guilty of it should be punished. It's sad that people are walking around letting hate consume their souls. Get over it!!!
VWDec 20th 2008 12:17PM
Sherlita...don't you think the CIA has better things to do than investigate every comment, especially when we have the 5th amendment right to say whatever we want about whoever we want? The people passing these emails should be fired, or at least suspended - not because of the content, but because it was personal email on a government computer. If I passed along one that said Merry Hanukkah & Happy Christmas on my work computer, I'd get in trouble.

Maybe you never heard a racist remark about Pres Bush BUT how about calling him a murderer, baby killer, moron and the like? I'm sure calling him a white redneck would hurt less than these comments. To many people B Hussein is an untouchable, Saviour like figure. But there are 57 Million of us out there who see him as an unqualified, corrupt connected politician rising up through the cesspool of Chicago. Be prepared for him to be criticized harshly and often as his Messiah status will be totally rejected by the masses of intelligent people. We have been safe from in the US since 9/11- that era is about to end, our safety now is in the hands of Barack Hussein Obama- sleep tight.

a waste of time and money, we have better things that need doing

Any threat made to any president should be investigated in which it always has been. What makes him so different from any other president except the color of his skin. Yes Bush has been called everything under the sun...but we have lost so many lives both military and civilian alike...and for what? Why is it so hard for America to accept the fact that Obama is president-elect? At least give him a chance to do the job he was elected to do just like the presidents before him.
JoolDec 20th 2008 1:16AM
This is a GOVERNMENT. RACISM has NO PLACE on ANY government computer, government proposal, laws......anything.
You do NOT want this kind of racist personal bs on anything government.
You may not be a minority now, but you could very well be in the future.
And since when does ANYONE have a CHOICE about what 'race' they are born into?
Wake up people, this is so disgusting on so many levels. Whether you like Obama or you don't, when you work for the government you don't have a personal opinion at work period. DO THE JOB YOU'RE PAID TO DO.
ccDec 21st 2008 11:47AM
wow , do you mean that feds work??? thats hard to believe
JazzDec 20th 2008 1:17AM
The 'intelligence' of GWB is not even near the same level as Obama.
GWB has created his own mess and makes no apologies for it.....
If Obama makes a mess like GWB, he'll get some not so nice well deserved comments too.
That's still no excuse for any racist comments of any kind.
America is finally moving beyond race, my generation and younger generations are proud to judge people on their merits/character and not their skin color.
I'm proud to have raised many children of many races and religions in one household as brothers and sisters. My grandchildren are being raised the same way, no race and no religion is better than any other, we are ONE.
dizzyruby611Dec 20th 2008 5:43AM
Wow... so we can criticize Bush, make fun of him ... but Obama is off limits? Double standards anyone? The minute he became president is the minute *every* single nasty thing we can say about a president is allowed. It was for Bush, it shall be for the next guy... and I do not care if they are white, black, pink or blue. I'm not racist. I believe that I can freely bad mouth anyone in a public position, period.
TEETYMEDec 20th 2008 1:36PM
ITS A NOT THE SAME.... BAD MOUTH IS ONE THING BUT BEING RACIST IS ANOTHER DO U WANT UR KIDS GROWIMG UP LIKE THAT
LovieDec 20th 2008 11:06PM
no honey you still do not get the point. he is not in the seat yet. I have never heard any buttcracking jokes about any president elect until he legally gets into the seat, therefore the same respect you gave them all then let's do the same for Obama hell give him a chance to get in first damn grow up.
jjDec 20th 2008 11:12AM
Uh hello - there is this thing called the first amendment. Also, just because someone forwarded an email with racial stereotypes in it does not make someone a racist, "ignorant" or "hateful". ===Not on employer property can individuals use the excuse of first amendment rights to engage in personal and un work related activities. Got that?

They elected Richard Pryor for president? That's hilarious!!!!!!!!
SMRTNUPDec 20th 2008 3:22PM
It's so obvious !!! . . . There's a double standard when it comes to
" ACCEPTABLE WORDS ". . . The Black Community seems to want it both ways. . . They wish to SAY whatever comes to their mind at any forum but, . . at the same time, . . . LIMIT that which anyone other than a Black Person can say !!! . . . . It's like they spend most of their time looking for something to COMPLAIN and PROTEST about !!! . . . We ALL have to lighten up and understand that in a FREE SOCIETY other people are going to do and say things which we don't agree with. . . . THAT'S A TWO-WAY STREET !!! . . . Get the chip off of your shoulder and if you see or hear something you don't agree with, . . . CONSIDER THIS !!! . . . Not everything that YOU DO pleases Everybody either !!! . . .
. . . ACT FREE, . . . BE FREE !!! . . .
