At 92, Kirk Douglas Is Oldest Celebrity Blogger

While most able-minded 92-year-old men probably spend their time at the VFW Hall, actor Kirk Douglas spends his time online, regularly penning a MySpace blog, Reuters reports.
The classic film actor and father of Michael Douglas began blogging on the social-networking site last year as a way to publicize his memoir 'Let's Face It.' Surprisingly, what started as a promotional strategy soon became a full-blown hobby as Mr. Douglas realized the appreciation his fans had for his occasional posts.
"It's something that gives me personal satisfaction," he told Reuters.
His posts, which generally crop up once or twice a month, have indeed generated substantial interest among fans. His blog post concerning Toni Morrison and a shared desire for a Federal apology for slavery received seven comments and 14 'Kudos,' while his post celebrating Barack Obama's election to the office of President garnered 29 comments and 76 'Kudos.'
Unafraid of a potential backlash from his more conservative fans, Mr. Douglas told Reuters, of his often socially and politically themed posts, "I take it seriously. Otherwise I wouldn't do it." [From: MySpace via Reuters]

I HAVE BEEN A KIRK DOUGLAS FAN FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE SEEN ABOUT ALL OF HIS FILMS AND ENJOYED THEM
ALL. AT KIRKS AGE I REALLY ADMIRE HIM FOR NOT JUST
SITTING AROUND WAITING TO DIE. I AM JUST 69 YEARS OLD
AND IF MY HEALTH HOLDS OUT I JUST MAY REACH HIS AGE.
I HOPE HE MAKES SOME MORE FILMS. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHAT PART HE PLAYS BECAUSE HE DOES
VERY WELL IN ALL. THANKS MR DOUGLAS FOR WHAT YOU
HAVE DONE FOR THE ARTS. I DON'T HAVE A PHOTO OF YOU
AND IF I DID IT WOULD BE IN MY DEN.

Has anyone heard this guy speak publically in the last 15 years. I'm not knocking his age...bravo that he's still active. But...he's another Hollywood amoral idiot that promotes the "anything in life is ok". He's a Hollywood sicko in the likes of Sean Penn and the rest of the communists we call famous.

I thought he was dead?

He didn't say we should appologize, but that the government should. Where have you learned your government or history. Government is the people (at least in a democracy) and the people are the government. It is about time Americans embrace that fact.
As for Mr. Douglas - I'm glad I found this article because I had believed he died a year of two ago. And congratualtions to him for using a computer. I'm 59 and I sometimes find them more of a mystery. Just when I think I have the hang of them, I see I don't have a clue. At least he isn't afraid of change, progress and technology as so many older adults are.
An inspiration to us all. Thank you, Kirk Douglas!

I always enjoyed most of Mr. Douglas's movies but his latest writings and thoughts prove he has been in Hollywood to long and listening to left wing airheads (like his son Michael) for far to long. He has fallen prey to the "Obama mania" nonsense and probably has these thoughts simply because this is America's first black President whether or not the man is qualified....which he is not!

What an old fart! He must be pretty dumb to be for Obama.

What impresses me most about the Hollywood Greats like Kirk Douglas, Van Johnson, Paul Newman and so many others of their era (living or deceased) was the high level of ethics they possessed, both on and off the screen. There was a code of honor to which they adhered that only endeared them more to the hearts of the people, world-wide.
They didn't have to resort to off-screen antics or questionable behavior to gain attention or publicity. Their persona was electrifying and memorable and their private lives were just that...private!
If only that were true today!

So Kirk Douglas feels the federal government should apologize for slavery...
Only those who perpetrate an immoral action can apologize for it, and since none of those people are alive that makes an apology impossible, so the damage has been done. I know it's very hip and politicially correct to jump on the apology bandwagon but let's think this thing through:
During the Civil War the Emancipation Proclamation was signed demanding the freeing of the slaves. This action was brought on by the federal government. No one who was alive then is alive today. I was about eight years old when I first read about slavery and I was outraged beyond belief that people could enslave others; it never occured to me that *I* should feel guilty about this. I find it ironic that there are those who feel that somehow *I* should apologize for something I not only didn't do, but have hated since finding out about it. In short, asking me to apologize is racist, and insulting.
Here is another point: Toni Morrison's is saying in effect "Apologize and this will make it better". I have news for Ms. Morrison and her minions: NOTHING will make slavery OK, it will always be a scar on our history, but people such as Morrison and Douglas want to keep picking at the scar so that it keeps bleeding.
What guilt-ridden Whites need to also understand is that even if they get on their knees and apologize for slavery, Morrison and people such as her are NOT ever going to be satisfied. She's an angry woman who figures that since she can't punish those who actually inflicted the horrors of slavery onto its victims, she will make sure that SOMEONE will pay for this.
How ironic that after the federal government went to war with the Confederate states over slavery, now it is being asked to apologize for slavery even though it ended it. Even more ironic that the soon-to-be leader of the federal government is a Black man elected by the majority of the White voters and how insane that HE should have to apologize. What guilt does OBAMA have per slavery? Pretty ridiculous, I say.
This is not only a racist insult to those of us White folks who hate slavery by assuming that just because we are White that somehow we are racist, but it is an insult to those people of ALL races who laid their lives on the line not just to end slavery, but advance our country to the point where the leader of our country is Black.
Yes, racism still exists, but the best weapon against racism is to become as educated as possible, whether that is formal academic education, or self-taught, and to recognize that when there is a three-quarters out-of-wedlock birthrate among Black, no amount of apologizing for something that happened well over 100 years ago will fix the problem.
I wonder if the reason they are focusing on slavery is because they want to draw attention away from the REAL issues of TODAY affecting Blacks?
