I'm, like, okay with being a little crazy.
The time, energy, words, weight lost, nails bitten, scabs picked and nights I've struggled thru for this are easy to judge from afar, right?
Things I won't miss about being a freelancer: incorrectly estimating my taxes and owing a ton of cash at the end of the year.
So pissed at @thomashouston right now for not reminding me about James Blake last night.

So, turn the bluetooth off on your phone, and it's circumvented.
Or get a copy of the key made, and leave this thing in your pocket.
Or leave it turned on overnight and kill the battery, then "forget" to charge it.
Trying to force teenagers to be safe is like trying to force nerds to comply with DRM. It just doesn't work in practice.

your phone has a gps. why not interface to make all phones inoperable if movement is more than ten mph. that would allow you to talk while walking or jogging. also no extra fees to pay each month.

How is it safe for a pilot to talk to approach controll while flying dozens of passengers (aircraft radio) but cant call wife to see if she needs anything for dinner?(cell phone)??
drktranquillityJan 14th 2009 2:15AM
Because, genius, pilots radio the tower to ASSURE a safe approach. Communicating with control allows them to fly safely, phoning your wife does no such thing for your driving skills... unless you are BLIND and she's sitting on the roof navigating for you.

This law would make it hard for Truck drivers who need to call someone in a strange town to make a delivery. Lets face it, you can not park a big rig just anywhere to make a phone call

AREN'T FIREMEN SUPPOSED TO BE HEROS FOR KIDS TO LOOK UP TOO, PUBLIC SERVENTS, I GET THE WHOLE SAFTY ISSUE, I AM AN ER RN, BUT REALLY WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SUCH A TRASHY MOUTH. CURSING EVERY OTHER WORD JUST TAKES AWAY CREDIBILITY FROM YOUR POINT.

RN,
yes firemen are supposed to be role models and whatnot, and i apologize for the foul language. the whole point of that comment was that the companies creating something for safety, will only make the problem worse. in my opinion, the cellphone problem will never ever go away and this jamming key is a good example of something that will create a bigger problem. if someone wants to talk while they drive, then thats for law enforcement to deal with. and thats how it should be now and forever. i'm really 100% opposed to the idea of this key, and in another article that was talking about a 50 state ban on driving and using cell phones. and as a fireman whose responded to dozens of accidents, yes cell phones cause car accidents among other things, but that will never change. why do you think they call it a car accident and not something like an intentional collision with no reason?
PhilJan 17th 2009 1:54PM
The fact that you are a firefighter scares the crap out of me more than someone using a phone while driving. You obviously did not read the article, because if you did you would know the key is not a jammer, but a bluetooth interface to disable the phone. Most of you fail to grasp the point that it is not the cell phone use that is dangerous but just oblivious drivers. I have seen countless oblivious drivers that are not on cell phones that have nearly killed me. You cannot legislate stupidity away. Pass some driver education laws instead if you want to make a difference. Teach people how to change lanes and merge on an interstate. Teach people to look before they pull out or back up. Dave states that 23% of accidents are caused by cell phones...ok, that leaves 87% caused by something else. DUH! Get a clue people, this is some insurance company ploy to save money by denying claims to cell phone users. I say we ban stupid people instead...boy the roads would be empty wouldn't they?
