Obama's Choice for Energy Secretary?

Word on the street is that soon-to-be-president Barack Obama has chosen another smart guy to surround himself with. Steven Chu, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist who runs Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been named Energy Secretary.

Chu is an experimental physicist, known for his research in laser cooling and trapping of atoms. Here's a quote the New York Times dug up, which Chu delivered at a lecture in Washington on energy options in June of this year: "New houses could be made energy efficient with an investment of an extra $1,000, "but the American consumer would rather have a granite countertop."

Amen, brother. This guy is a scientist, not a politician. Another nerd running the country? Awesome. [From: Reuters via BoingBoing]
