Is Facebook to Blame for the Financial Crisis?

Is Social Networking Behind the Financial Crisis? Many factors have been blamed for the current economic downturn impacting people worldwide, from big oil and its high prices to banks and their sub-prime mortgages. But social networks like Facebook and Twitter? That's a new one to us, but some people think it's our instant connectivity to others that has resulted in this financial paranoia; that bad news travels too fast when everyone's connected to everyone.

The idea is as follows: With tools like Twitter and Facebook, it's all too easy to share how you're feeling. If you're scared about your job or your mortgage, you can easily let everyone else know. When others start seeing enough people getting scared, they find it hard not to not start feeling the same way and, thus, the cycle continues. And, given the health of the stock market is largely based on the confidence of its investors, there could be some truth to this. So, it seems, if you really want the economy to recover, then stop talking to your friends about it! [From: Valleywag]
