Best HDTVs Under $1000 12
Vizio SV420XVT1A
42-inch LCD 1080p
$999.99 at Costco
WHAT'S A DEAL: It's got all the things you'd want in an HDTV – 1080p resolution, four HDMI inputs, and three built-in surround sound speakers that actually sound good. Also, it has a 120Hz refresh rate – a rarity in this price range – which means sports and fast-action scenes look smooth (no pixellation).
WHAT'S THE CATCH: We'd like a better viewing angle, even for this money, and definitely at this size. In other words, the picture only looks good to those folks who are more or less sitting in front of the television – folks on the sides of the room will have some slight screen distortions to deal with. And, at 42-inches, this TV is meant for large rooms that will certainly have room for folks on the side.
BOTTOM LINE: Vizio makes solid TVs at affordable prices – we've never been disappointed with this discount brand. And, with that 120Hz refresh rate, this is the TV to beat for sports fans.
