Have 'Guitar Hero' and 'Rock Band' Peaked?

According to Electronic Entertainment Design and Research's "November 2008 Retail Sales Preview" report, the popularity of Guitar Hero is peaking. Predicting a sales decline of more than 50 percent from 'Guitar Hero 3' to 'World Tour' this month (and following a decline of 60 percent in October), it's expected that the game will begin a slow but steady decline in the months and years ahead.
"It is pretty clear that the series has already reached its peak among the mass-market audience," Jesse Divnich, director of analyst services for the firm, told Joystiq. He went go on to say that he doesn't believe this to be the end of 'Guitar Hero' or 'Rock Band,' and that they're "here to stay," and that they expects the franchises to continue for the next 10 years.
What's next? Are we going to start playing real instruments? Our money is on getting computers to play the games for us. Now, resume the faux rocking. [From: Joystiq]

The decline is because the economy sucks and these games are expensive. A new PS3 or X-BOX 360 is going to cost you $ 400.00.
Thats the only way to download more songs, you can only play bad or obscure songs so many times until your no longer interested.

What gets me is that the far simpler (and more party-friendly) Karaoke Revolution series seems in limbo, while Rock Band gets all the glory. No one's come out with a good karaoke/song trainer that matches KR's featureset on the new platforms. Bleh!

I have never played this game before but the thing I like about guitar hero is that they are resurrecting all this great old music and kids like my son are getting to hear music I grew up with..
I saw guitar hero on sale at big lots and starting thinking it must be on the decline.. But I think for the same reasons the poster above thought. I think its because of the economy. People dont have the money to download tons of songs

Ok, its money plus im sorry but most of the songs on world tour kinda suck, and since I have a PS2 I cant download any new songs and have to wait for the next game to come out and hope its better such as the upcomming Metallica.
How bout a RUSH compilation anyone?
