Canadian Academic Discovers Procrastination Equation

What does that actually measure? According to Professor Piers Steel, 'U' is a measure of procrastination. In addition to a equation to measure procrastination, Steel also discovered that procrastinators tend to favor instant gratification, often acting erratic and impulsive, with out concern for others or for long-term goals.
We here at Switched are actually expert procrastinators. Here's a list of things we did instead of writing this post for the last couple of hours:
- Checked out Evernote and considered ditching Google Notebook
- Tried to figure out how to add a shared Windows drive as our music library under Ubuntu
- Listed the reasons we're not ready to have children with our significant other
- Cuddled with our cat
- Had tea and cake
- Smoked a cigarette
- Fielded a call from a PR rep about setting up a meeting at CES
- Discussed what terrible procrastinators we are

At the last annual meeting of Procrastinator's Unanimous, I was elected president. Unfortunately, we haven't had an annual meeting in over 20 years, so I guess I still hold the post. I was going to look it up in the by laws, but I've been putting it off.....maybe after the holidays....

It may sound strange, but I've long held that procrastinators actually suffer from an insufficient ability to put things off that they need to. That is, when faced with a task that deserves concentrated and immediate attention, they allow other less important things (that they can't seem to postpone) to take precedence. This means that the remedy is to improve on our ability to put things off, things that are of secondary importance in favor of what is of primary importance. This doesn't mean working all the time, though. At some points recreation or rest needs to become ones priority, and thoughts and efforts associated with work need to be set aside (postponed).
