Canadian Academic Discovers Procrastination Equation

In the equation above, 'U' stands for utility, or the desire to complete a task. 'U' is equal to the product of 'E' (Expectation of success) and V (Value of completion), divided by the product of I (Immediacy of the task) and D (personal sensitivity to Delay). Eyes glossing over yet?

What does that actually measure? According to Professor Piers Steel, 'U' is a measure of procrastination. In addition to a equation to measure procrastination, Steel also discovered that procrastinators tend to favor instant gratification, often acting erratic and impulsive, with out concern for others or for long-term goals.

We here at Switched are actually expert procrastinators. Here's a list of things we did instead of writing this post for the last couple of hours:
  • Checked out Evernote and considered ditching Google Notebook
  • Tried to figure out how to add a shared Windows drive as our music library under Ubuntu
  • Listed the reasons we're not ready to have children with our significant other
  • Cuddled with our cat
  • Had tea and cake
  • Smoked a cigarette
  • Fielded a call from a PR rep about setting up a meeting at CES
  • Discussed what terrible procrastinators we are
