British Put the First Teddy Bears Into Space

The British just can't do anything without adding a touch of class and cute, and this appears to include scientific research. A group of researchers, with the assistance of some tween students, launched the first mission to involve a teddy bear "space-walk."
Students helped design space suits for the stuffed animals to keep them from turning to bear-cicles during their ride into sub-orbital space on a giant helium balloon. The four teddies were strapped to arms on a small cushioned box that also held a pair of Webcams for keeping track of the bears' journey.
Of course, now that the British have started the race to put cute things in space, it's only a matter of time before Japanese researchers start launching Hello Kitty paraphernalia into orbit. [From: Daily Mail]
