However, they ARE NOT NECESSARY to carry on personal conversations in public where everyone can hear what you are saying! I have been in a public restroom where people are in the next stall, taking care of business AND talking on their cell phone at the same time with no regard to how loud they are talking, or what others might be hearing them say !! If you have an emergency then by all means use the cell phone, otherwise wait until you are in a more private location to just YAK to someone!

Rhea

Comments on

AMEN!!! I totally agree with the bathroom thing! DO NOT ANSWER OR TALK ON THE PHONE IN A PUBLIC BATHROOM!!!! Seriously do not need to advertise to people I don't know what I am doing in the restroom! The other thing is do not talk on the phone and ignore your children! We are having enough issues with kids these days.... at dinner, in the car, while shopping or any other time or place that you get the opportunity talk to your kids!!! They need you and need you to talk to them!

Stefy

Comments on

I agree! I wouldn't think it would be too much to ask for to get a small, lightweight Nokia Slider. I had to go to the Motorola ROKR. It further irritates me that if I find a phone I really like---say at the Nokia website, I can't buy it because my cell phone company doesn't handle that particular phone. Usually the phones I choose are a bit smaller and a bit more expensive than the mainline of what my cellphone carrier markets.....but for what I pay for a phone and a 2-year contract, I should at least be able to have the phone I want.

Taran

Comments on

The thing that bothers me the most is headlock that cell phone companies put you in with those freaking contracts. The government needs to end the stranglehold they have with their 2 year contracts and the ridiculous termination fees! Also, the charging element, when you travel (I travel by train and it can be a nightmare charging any electronics!-no new invention on a charger that doesn't have to be plugged into an ac outlet?). And the people with the loud inappropriate conversations??? That's not the cell phone's fault. It's the fault of emotionally infantile people who ain't getting the attention they need and just want some from anybody!

snuffy

Comments on

Oh let me count the ways.....
Cell phones have to be the biggest scam people have allowed themselfs to fall for. Absolute robbery, you pay for your call and for those that call you unless of course you have some sort of unlimited calling plan with numerous rules and your still paying an enormous dollar amount.

Sure, I like gadgets and there are some cool phones out there but I would not pay for them.
I have a cell but I prefer the pay as I go plan since the phone is for emergency's only. I decide how much money to give to my carrier--it is perfect.

One more thing--people with cell phones--answer them! Whats the point if your just going to turn them off?

Bubbi

Comments on

I hate it when people leave the phone on or at least not on vibrate or no ring when in places it is inappropriate. C'mon, you can check for messages and missed calls later when you are not in a restaurant, church, etc. I actually witnessed a man getting a call during a funeral last week and he quickly grabbed his phone and ANSWERED the call! He actually sat there and talked to someone during the funeral mass! People were just looking at him and couldn't believe it! The only time it's on is when they make a call, after that it's off for a good long time. Then again the people talking loud for no reason kinda pisses me off.

When I'm at a restaurant or church I would always put it on volume or lower the ringer if it's at a restaurant and if it's appropriate (restaraunt) I would pick up for like 2 seconds just to say "I'm eating, can't talk now, bye" not have a freaking convo right there! Unquote

Most of you missed the question "it was not about people's behavior but the cell phone." Perhaps, the author did not phrase the question correctly, but I think your response, so far, is the most idiotic! People can use their cell phones in whatever manner they choose. I use mine only for outgoing calls and not for incoming calls - that's my perogative, you try to change that!

Selma Cadogan

Comments on

Not only do people allow their cell phones to ring in inapproriate places but the ringtone itself can be inapproriate.
