I've been broken up with via email by a guy I'd been long-distance dating (Philly to DC) for nine months. He called me about two weeks before he sent the break-up email telling me how much he enjoyed the Christmas gift I'd sent him but didn't give me any indication that he was going to break things off with me. Then, about 10 days after New Year's I got an email telling me "he'd met someone with whom he was more compatible" and that our nine month relationship was ambiguous. Boy was I crushed! Then I was angry and then I got over it (for the most part). I've since forgiven him and moved on (we still trade occasional emails), but I'm never doing a long-distance relationship again. It's hard enough getting people to be honest with you when they're in the same city with you, but the distance just seems to complicate matters (especially if one person isn't mature enough to handle it -- his cad-like behavior proves he obviously wasn't).
