Montauk Monster
Claim to Fame: This creepy unidentified critter washed ashore on a Long Island beach last summer. Since Gawker reported this story in late July, the monster's Internet fame has grown to a (fittingly) monstrous size. Message boards have been aflame with speculation concerning the true identity of the Montauk Monster; some folks claim that it's the diabolical product of the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, some postulate that it's an alien, and still others are convinced that it's just a bloated raccoon. One thing's for sure: It's scary! What do you think?
