Microsoft Releases Critical Security Patch for Windows
Ahh, another day, another major security flaw affecting millions of computers worldwide. Microsoft is the one at fault this time, with a new vulnerability discovered that impacts every version of Windows from XP and earlier, a flaw so serious the company felt compelled to break out of its usual routine of releasing updates on the second Tuesday of every month. The flaw is in the Remote Procedure Call, or RPC portion of Windows, which could enable a hacker to run software on your machine without having to be physically close to the computer -- in other words, hackers could run software on your machine from the other side of the globe. You wouldn't even have to visit a corrupted Web page or download any software; This virus would come to you, similar to how the Blaster worm of 2003 spread... and spread. The patch fixes the issue, and you should update your machine soon through Windows Auto Update, lest you become a statistic. [From: USA Today]

I started using a PC where I worked on an IBM XT. Windows 3.1 was not to bad but it has been downhill ever since. I have long been convinced that the absolutly worst thing that has ever occured to the PC world was that Bill Gates was not still-born.

Two words, Kevin: Ubuntu Linux. Using that operating system, there are very few reasons to look back.

Since my TRS 80 many years ago I have used MANY HP products all with Windows products and NEVER had a problem 99.9% of all computer problems are the users fault. get a life and grow up. My 5 year old grandson uses my main unit and has more sense than most of the anti Windows responses. They don't have the mass majority of all computer business because they make bad products lol.

Yep, for me, the next computer will be a Mac. I make sure and keep my reinstall codes, but I paid a goodly amount for the computer I'm on now and I am just NOT happy with it. For the money I paid I should be happy with how it works and I'm just not. I used Mac's when I was going to the university and a Mac user I will be when I next purchase.............

Lots of entertainment here. Simply, as most computer educated persons understand, the fact that you contracted a virus or any other O/S malady, is usually through downloads. Software is software and serves the purpose for the user depending on his or her needs. As far as PC V/S Mac, I have used PC's for years. A Mac for a couple of years. Both have their quirks. Why more PC user related complaints? PC's outnumber Macs in the world 8 to 1. Ratio? Best advice is buy your machine. Keep all disks and manuals. Store your key codes for future use. Do the updates regularly. Again, following some simple rules, will eliminate many of the complaints. It is only a machine. It does not know any better. It is 100% percent obedient. Think about it.

I must say that it is not Microsofts fault when someone loses their disc. How are they to know that you have a real unpirated copy or windows if you cannot prove it.

I too discarded my cd and product key. Back when I purchased my PC, I simply wasn't nearly as informed as I am now. I do regret it. Fortunately I haven't had an issue where I needed it. I do regret buying a MAC laptop. It's only been 5 months, and yes, the novelty has worn off. I fault MAC for their damn convincing promotion..lol. I kinda felt like I was missing out on some new cool technology. Call me stupid, but at least I admit it. Oh well, lesson learned. I'll stick with my PC for life.

I love the Microsoft system, but the customer service sucks. I was told you are only allowed to use your product code twice and then you have to buy another copy of windows, or another code. I still had my code, but had reinstalled the operating system right after purchasing my laptop, since I hate all the "offers and trials" they have on there. Well after a few months there was an adware virus on there I couldnt get rid of and had to reinstall the system only to have an error tell me the product key was invalid. I was told that since it was installed from the factory and I reinstalled I could not use the same code again. Now that is crap.

My mother has a mac an hates it , my roommate uses a mac at her job , she hates it ... they Both lock up on a daily basest ... it's true that mac Used to be the best for graphics but that is NO longer true ... Macs are Not user friendly that is why Windows is driving the PC world same goes for Linux , which I have used , if you like playing around with your system then use Linux or mac
I have been using my present system for 3 yrs without any problems , it keep it up to date both my XP and virus software.

I have had my code not accepted and just had to call the 800 number and give the cde it showed on screen which is I think a string of about 10 sets of numbers. They then give sets to type in and activate xp.

I have vista, it is the worst system I've ever used, I went from a 10 yr old 98SP to vista and it was a bumpy ride. I never used a virus program with my old set and never had a virus, it is still running if I want to use it and I miss it but it is operating on a fat 32 file and no sound. Vista is high strung and hard to control, the updates are ridiculous, I need an extra disk just to hold the updates and half the time they failed to download anyway. I just don't like the feel of it, it is only 8 months old and now Microsoft is coming out with a newer , better, easier to use program? swell, what do I do with this program? I know what I'd like to do with it but I think I'll get the new program as soon as its out. This vista program is preinstalled, so who knows what trouble I will have trying to put in a new program, after 8 months I'll be glad to see this one go. A sony with the linux program sounds really nice about now. I don't care for microsoft at all anymore, time to try something new.
