'Fable II' Hits Xbox 360 to Critical Acclaim

'Fable' was a blockbuster role-playing game (RPG) on the original Xbox. It was fun and deep and involving. However, for many, it still didn't quite live up to expectations. Game creator Peter Molyneux even expressed some disappointment in the title himself, but pledged to do better with its sequel. That sequel, 'Fable II' is now available for the Xbox 360, and it delivers the same basic fantasy gameplay as its predecessor, that of a free-form role-playing game in which you play a wanderer named Albion and travel through a living medieval-esque fantasy world in which the choices you make have a huge influence on your character's progression, choices like whether to rescue a person from robbers or just join in the theft, or whether you should help a merchant in distress or loot all his wares. The reviews are out and overall they're quite positive, finding the game to be an easy affair for the most part, but still well worth your time.

IGN
Score: 88
A "great combat system" makes this one fun to play, and the overall world, with its dynamic and involving economic and social landscape, and player-driven experience are top-notch, but interaction with the various other in-game locals, everything from religious figures to ladies of the night, seem "artificial." In other words, don't expect to have much fun chatting with the locals, but you will enjoy exploring their towns.

Gamespot
Score: 85
The medieval-like world is called "charming" and the choices "profound," and while the difficulty is said to be far too easy, the overall experience of exploration, discovery, and character growth is "immensely rewarding."

Gamespy
Score: 90
"Heartily" recommended. Gamespy found the game to be a fun journey full of "difficult, meaningful decisions" that will have a huge impact on the development of your character as it grows from a young 'un to a grizzled veteran. You'll constantly be tempted by evil and given opportunities to do good, and your choice will your character and your gameplay experience.

Eurogamer
Score: 100
"Inclusive and often thought-provoking, " delivering a "constant challenge without resorting to mindless punishment." This review concludes by saying "'Fable II' will charm you, thrill you, and leave you very, very happy." That, plus the score, should give you an idea of how good this is.
