How to Save Money on Your Monthly Tech Bills 6

Watch TV (and compute) at night when electric rates are lower
You know how it's expensive to run your air conditioning during the day, when electric rates can be five times higher than at night? Well, same thing goes for watching TV (or using all our other gadgets). If you can bear to be away from your daytime TV shows as they're aired, then consider watching recorded or online versions after 7pm. This is especially true if you own a plasma or CRT television, which tend to use up more energy than, say, an LCD-TV (about 3 to 4 times worth!).

I know this may be changing, but right now I am charged a flat rate for electricity. So as far as my cost are concerned, I pay the same per kilowatt day and night. Thus, modifying my usage makes no absolutely no financial sense.

Daytime electric rates are not higer during the day for residential customers, they pay the same rate 24 hrs a day. Only commercial accounts that have time-of-day billing would save by using energy guzzler appliances during the night.

You have to find out if you are on the plan which charges you less for energy used at night (from your provider). If you aren't you have to switch to it. It's only going to save you if you are not using power during the day. I am home all day so it would cost me more if I switched. Without this special plan you pay the same for every kilowat hour.

The only flaw about references air conditioners is that in the day time that is when we want them on, not at night when its cooled down: in most places in temperate zones anyway.

I have been doing laundry and running the dishwasher at night when demand is lower for years, now. Basically out of the need to because I worked during the day. Carried over to now.

The rate we pay for electricity is the same day or night, the electric company gets it cheaper than we do at night, but not us.

I have read on the web in various places & heard on morning news shows that running appliances at night saves money. I called my utility company and they said this is FALSE. I was told there is absolutely no difference in the rate no matter when I use an appliance. I was also told that to POSSIBLY see a rate difference I would need a special meter installed in our home which tracks our usage. If we could show we used the majority of our electricity on "off hours" (and who knows what that might mean in reality...after 7PM? 11PM?)...there might be a small savings.
So, I have no idea why I keep hearing, reading, etc. that there's a savings using electricity in the evening. Can anyone tell me what the real deal is here?
