How to Save Money on Your Monthly Tech Bills 16

Brew Your Own Coffee
We know most people can't survive without coffee in the morning because we're in the same boat. But we also know that spending a few bucks at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts every morning is a waste of cash. That's why it's much more cost efficient to pony up a mere $36 for a snazzy-looking coffeemaker like the Braun KF590 and buy your own beans or grounds. This baby brews up to 54 ounces through a Brita filter and has a programmable timer so you can have fresh coffee when you wake up. Or, you can leave it unplugged when not in use to cut energy costs -- it's up to you. Unless you're incredibly lazy, there's no reason to keep throwing your money away at the coffee chains. (For more coffee makers, check out this lineup.)

My brother bought my Mom a BUNN coffee maker (last Christmas) which is supposed to be plugged in 24/7 to deliver coffee within 5 min of pouring the water inside of it. That HAS to be a big killer on electricity. I mean come on, it must be consuming at least 30 watts 24/7.
And my parents still blame me their monthly $100 - $110 electric bill. I'm the one who told them to convert all our lights to CFLs (which 75% now are)..and change all the Halloween & Christmas lights to LED lights which are about 75% to 90% cheaper to run & brighter than the old incandescent ones. (We used to pay about $135 last year during December due to all the X-mas lights...now about $20 cheaper!)
I actually take a shower with just a night light on since we have a glass shower door. It's plenty of light. Plus, it's great when you first wake up & you don't want that bright light. (We have a light fixture in the bathroom that uses 4 - 40watt bulbs...so 160watts vs my 7watt night light)
