Wii Fit
The promise: It's always incredible watching hype build up around a new Nintendo product, and the Wii Fit was no exception -- even unsuspecting girlfriends got in on the act. The Fit promised exercise fun in your home, without the cost of a home gym or the inconvenience of having to go outside.
Why It's overrated: Strip the Nintendo name, and the concept sounds more and more like something you'd see advertised on late-night infomercials. Set up the board in front of your TV, and you'll be doing yoga, playing balancing games, and losing weight -- all in the comfort of your own home! Several parodies popped up following release of the Wii Fit, and this one is right on.
Bottom line: Geeks all over the Web jumped at the chance to lose weight while having fun on the Wii Fit, but we won't be surprised to see this one parked in attics worldwide next to Nintendo's original Power Pad.

I LOVE my Wii Fit. I'm a stay at home mom who also goes to school full time. I don't have the time or the money to go to an over priced gym that costs more than the Wii Fit after only a few months of membership. I can do yoga, aerobics, balance exersizes and so much more. It also keeps track of your progress which has been proven to help people lose weight. Have you even tried it more than maybe the one time to test it? Or are you the type that prefers sitting on you a$$ all day long instead?

I agree about it seeming like an infomercial product, but that's definitely not the best reason you could come up with why it's overrated. It is so because they built up all this hype around it and then would barely even allow people to get one. With all the time they waited to release more to stores where you don't have to overpay to get it after the first stock sold out fast, the average person would have lost interest. I barely got mine and spent quite a while looking for one for my sister's birthday (her birthday even passed and I was still looking), then finally gave up. Spending AT LEAST $130 on eBay wasn't worth it for something that really only costs $90 and, like you said, will eventually end up in an attic (or in her case, basement).
