Many College Students Prefer Wi-Fi to Beer, Study Claims

The vast majority of college students have been found -- in a recent survey -- to highly value Wi-Fi, according to an article we found on Propeller.com and TechnologyExpert.
Conducted by Wakefield Research, the study found that 90-percent of college students characterize Wi-Fi access as indispensable to their education. Close to 60-percent of them claimed that the availability of free wireless would determine whether or not they would attend a certain school.
While these numbers are slightly surprising, one statistic is truly mind-boggling. According to this survey, a staggering 48-percent of students would sooner give up beer than give up Wi-Fi. Upon reading this figure, we were given no choice but to seriously doubt the integrity of this report; it was, after all, commissioned by an organization called the Wi-Fi Alliance.
But, what if the study is right? Could it possibly be that college students today are more intent on studying than partying? What are the youth of our country coming to?
Our fears were somewhat allayed, though, when we saw that over half of these kids check MySpace and Facebook in class. That, at least, will truly prepare them for the workforce. [From: TechnologyExpert via Propeller.com]

This article is hilarious. I'm reading it when I should be reading The Odyssey. And I can't wait until the weekend so I can go out and drink. So I guess I kind of fit the stereotype. Oh well : )

Those college students should put EDUCATION first! Hit those books hard and graduate! Their parents paid all that money in tuition to get them in college. The beer, parties, indulgences, talent shows, concerts on campus should be last on their list. It's good to have fun with extracurricular activities in between, but they should focus on getting that degree. And it's good that they are using Wi-Fi for studying purposes. This group of college students in that poll is very focused on their education and becoming successful leaders on their own.

I'm sorry, but I don't need my parents money to put me in college and to be motivated. There's a thing called "paying for college on your own." You should look into that sometime, because I do that and many of other college students do that to! I don't need "mommy and daddy's" money to get me into college. I along with other college students don't need to get through college or life on their tab. geez...

Why is the author of this article acting like there's some sort of conspiracy behind this study?? I'm a recent college grad. I can tell you that a lot of students use the internet for more than just studying. People are addicted to their social networking sites, their e-mail... online gaming.. eBay etc.. you just CANNOT be without the internet these days if you're a modern person. Besides, the internet is crucial when attending school. If you don't have wi fi access in study rooms it puts you at a great disadvantage when you need to look for articles for your essay or check a fact. Not to mention professors routinely post homework and articles online for students to check and read.
This article is cool, but the author sort of sucks for making dumb comments.

College kid.
WiFi means I don't have to pay for cable and a number of books for college. I'd give up alcohol long before WiFi. It saves money, entertains me, and is a study tool. I also need it for work... Mostly, it saves $$$. With college tuition prices raping and murdering me and the cost of books/food on campus spitting on my corpse, money-savers win.
