New Web Site Allows You to See Who's Googling You

Watch out, stalkers: Social networking Web site Ziggs allows users to get instant e-mails every time someone Googles their name and checks out their profile.
Of course, stalker stalking is not the site's stated purpose. Rather, like other social networking sites, it can help users get back in touch with old friends and also improve the presence of their businesses on the Web. The added boon from the instant e-mails is the ability for businesses to learn more about who is seeking out the services they offer.
CBS spoke to Marilyn Kal-Hagan and her partner Tim Brown, who run two businesses out of their Denver home. Ziggs immediately alerts them as to where the searcher is located, what time the search happened, and what keywords they used. Because his name is so common, Brown pays Ziggs $4.95 a month to have his name pushed to the top of Google and Yahoo search results. "I compete with Tim Brown the all-pro football player, so it's very hard for me to be number one on Google," he said.
To all those ex-girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands and wives out there: Tread carefully. [From: CBS 4 Denver]

This sounds like a bunch of hype... All this site could possibly tell you is the ISP of people who google your name. If I want to google my ex, assuming he actually KNOWS my ISP, all I have to do is do it from a friend's computer or my university's library, or the city library, or whatever, and no one is the wiser. Furthermore, I have one of the most common names around. When I google myself, results that have anything to do with the real me don't show up until the sixth page, this despite my involvement in a high-profile news story a couple of years ago. They really sort through the stories and determine which ones are about me? They actually know when someone is googling the rabbinical student, or the poet, or the woman in California getting sued, versus me? Whatever. Furthermore, $5 a month to get you to the top of google results? So what happens when someone else with the same name ALSO gives them $5 to get THEIR name to the top? Who gets bumped? I call BS!!!!

Thanks Evan, for filling us in on this interesting site. I'll have to check it out. It may be a great way to get traffic to my safety and security web site.
