Bad news
Google-philes,
T-Mobile has stopped taking pre-orders for the
Android-powered
G1, at least for now. Apparently, demand for for the new handset has been so high that T-Mobile has ceased being able to even estimate when you might be able to get your hands on the device. Attempting to order the device results in this message being displayed: "Sorry! Due to the overwhelming popularity of the new T-Mobile G1, upgrades are temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
Of course, the G1 is only available to existing T-Mobile customers right now -- will
HTC be able to keep up with demand once they start selling this thing unlocked in a couple of months? [From:
CNET]

Is this somehow supposed to be counted as news? This type of entry--and its source from CNET--is the very reason online hearsay becomes false news and worsens the signal-to-noise ratio. If you had done any sort of journalistic investigation, you would have:
1) Contacted T-mobile to ask about this rumor of halted sales, where you would have been told that it's not true. That yes, the G1 is still available for pre-sale according to the conditions previously set out. And that
2) The message about 'upgrades are temporarily unavailable' is the default message their online order entry servers produce when they crash--as they have several times in the last week.

This is true. I pre-ordered mine a few days into October.
