Global competition in the Information Age requires countries to step up to the plate and give their students as many advantages as they can.  (Although the U.S., unfortunately, seems behind the curve in this regard.)  Until their local educational system catches on, though, parents at least have the option of encouraging their children to play these games on their own.  And regarding the expense, there are cheaper alternatives than the pay services.  For example, there are a number of sites on the web where educational/brain games can be played for free, such as at Kaboose.com ( <a href="http://funschool.kaboose.com/" rel="nofollow">http://funschool.kaboose.com/</a> ) or the Brain Games Training page on my own website, <a href="http://www.memory-improvement-tips.com/brain-games.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.memory-improvement-tips.com/brain-games.html</a> .
