FBI Raids Apartment of Suspected Palin E-Mail Hacker

The agents broke up a party to search the residence and issued subpoenas to Kernell's three roommates. According to some witnesses, Kernell fled the scene, but details surrounding the events are a bit murky.
The hacker, who broke into Palin's e-mail in-box, left a posting late last week on a forum at 4chan explaining how he used publicly available information to change the password for the account. Bloggers and forum members were able to quickly associate the handle used on the posting, rubico, with an e-mail address, rubico10@yahoo.com, which was then connected to Kernell. Authorities were also able to identify the IP address used to break into the account as belonging to Pavlov Media, the ISP that provides access at Kernell's apartment complex.
Kernell has not been charged with any crimes as of yet, but a grand jury hearing is set to begin this week. If convicted, he is expected to serve little if any jail time and be charged with a misdemeanor, though felony charges are possible. [From: Wired]

Does it not bother anyone how easy this really was for this kid? He's not necessarily a punk. It's because he could do it. Just because YOU won't do it doesn't mean someone can"t!!! 10 years ago 16 year old relatives of mine hacked a school computer and wrote the principal's resignation letter. We thought it was pretty funny but deserved discipine and they got 10 days out of school. The bigger concerns should be that someone could so EASLIY get at a potential V.P.'s info. What does that tell us about our security system in place in our country? Look at the BIG picture people and stop the name calling. OR WHAT DID HE FIND THAT THEY DON'T WANT US TO KNOW?????

Its not as if he were some kind of computer wiz hacking into high security or secretive accounts... its a Yahoo e-mail account. Plus, the article clearly says he "used publicly available information to change the password for the account" which it the FIRST thing everyone tells you NOT TO DO! I guess Palin and McCain are meant to be together... he can't use a computer and she knows just enough to be dangerous on a computer... apparently Palin may have used the account for official business at some time.
Anyone stupid enough to use information available to the public to create a password deserves to be hacked. Using things like your kids birthdays or names or words that explain something important in your life... maybe she used something like dead moose for a password.
BTW... the reason McCain can barely use the most basic computer functions has nothing to do with his injuries.

You said it all, Dottie! Well done.

To all Obama supporters:
This man is an empty suit that is beholding to the Left Wing Democratic Party Policies. I among many others recognize him for what he is,
A VERY SCARY SOCIALIST.

Since the article says he changed the password, he most likely did the most incredibly easy thing... he answered her "secret question." The scarey part is these two have the potential to run the entire country if they win!!

"I know it's because she is so articulate, well spoken, direct, knowledgeable, and so capable of running the business of an entire state government"

If you weren't so serious this would be funny. Palin is a ditz, why do you think they hid her away from the press for two weeks? Further, they are limiting time on the VP debate because she is not an experienced debater!
Her primary "knowledge" on foreign policy is she can see part of Russia from some places in Alaska and her refueling stop in Ireland.
As for running a business, the people on HER campaign claim she is incapable of running a business, adding that of course she isn't a candidate for running a business!

Sort of like that movie, "War Games" with Mathew Broderick back in 1972 or so.

The saddest part is that he used his email address as his alias. If you're going to do something like that, especially on this large of a scale, at least be a little smart and post under a name that has nothing to do with your email address or real name or any personally identifying details.
Not that what this kid did wasn't wrong, it just wasn't well-thought-out and made him look stupid.

The Pepto Pimp --
Dude, he DID use a proxy. In the last article about this, they said that he used an anonymous proxy service and that they would get the caches from the owner of the service.
I say if she got her email hacked she needs to make tougher recovery questions. Common people get hacked every day! You go, kid!

Where was all the outrage when Republican staff members of the US Senate Judiciary Commitee hacked into Democrat's private files?!

Boston Globe: Senate Republicans hack democrat's files - violation of the DMCA?
Senate panel's GOP staff spied on Democrats, Charlie Savage, Globe Staff, 1/22/2004
WASHINGTON -- Republican staff members of the US Senate Judiciary Commitee infiltrated opposition computer files for a year, monitoring secret strategy memos and periodically passing on copies to the media, Senate officials told The Globe.
From the spring of 2002 until at least April 2003, members of the GOP committee staff exploited a computer glitch that allowed them to access restricted Democratic communications without a password. Trolling through hundreds of memos, they were able to read talking points and accounts of private meetings discussing which judicial nominees Democrats would fight -- and with what tactics.
