Top 25 Optical Illusions On the Web 15
This silhouette wins the award for coolest thing we've seen all day -- and it's not just because the tiny dancer above is in the buff. This is a little test that will tell you whether the left or right hemisphere of your brain is more dominant.
Instead of concentrating on her chest, concentrate on the woman's movement. If you see her spinning clockwise, that means you're using the right side, or more creative side of your brain. If she appears to be moving counter-clockwise, then that means the left side, or more logical side of your think muscle is superior.
At the Switched office, some of us see her going clockwise, others see her spinning counter-clockwise. At least one of us claims to see both, while another one of us opened this animation in Adobe ImageReady in order to isolate the frames to see if there's any direction-changing funny business going on. There isn't.

At first I saw her turning 'clockwise' but I am a musician so I guess that explains that but then after some SERIOUS training I was able to see her spin 'counter-clockwise'.
I'm a little freaked out now...hold me.

At first I saw her moving counter clockwise. By the time I finished reading the article It was moving clockwise. This was weird to me! I would look away and then look back and then I saw it clockwise. I repeated this several times and If I catch the woman's body in a certain spot...It changes. I was able to see both. Pretty cool:)

just look at her legs the whole entire time people. One leg is her left leg that is sticking out. Then after a few minutes it changes to her right. ITs that simple!!!!!!!!!! Thats why they call it an illusion. to mess with your head. pay really close attention. I saw both directions.
janetOct 30th 2008 10:22PM
People are a bunch of tards if they cannot figure that if they really were to pay attention that YES INDEED SHE DOES SWITCH LEGS!! come on now are we really that dumb that just because someone says no there is no switching we are going to believe it????? Use your head. Think first. Look closely to detail people.

I seen her moving clockwise, as I was reading about it she changed to counter-clockwise then back again when I finished. My son seen her moving counter-clockwise then began whistling and she changed to clockwise for him. When he stopped she returned to counter-clockwise for him.

if you doubt get a group of people to look at it at the same time and you will find that different people will see different things.
There was a study done with a group of people who wore these glasses that would flip the things they saw upside down, eventually their brain would train itself to see it right side up, when they were told to take the glasses off their visiion was upside down again, yet again their brain would train itself to see the vision correctly.

Nothing has worked so far until this one. I was born with split vision and hardly ever see illusions but this ones got me. I see both so very clear it scares me.

OMG! I stared at it for like three minutes until it switched. At first I saw it going counter clockwise, then all of a sudden it scared the crap out of me and switched.

i believe the picture is set-up to change rotation, but, we tend not to notice it because we are so concentrated looking at the image.

This illusion is for real and after about an hour of studying I finally figured it out. To begin to unravel it's mystery you should start with the shadow. Instead of imagining it going around, you should instead imagine it going up and down. You should be able to make it go either "way" by looking at it onve the shadow is at it's highest point. Then if yhou study the actual foot you should be able to see that the foot is the exact same on either side. Also notice that the shoulder on the left side of the image is always higher than the shoulder on the right side of the image. If you then stifsy the rest of the body parts you'll see that it actually moves in a 180 degree motion back and forth and that it can be percieved as going either way the whole way around. If the figure wasn't moving up and down this illusion wouldn't work.

I was able to tell the figure to spin clockwise and counter clockwise.
I stared at the lower right corner. While staring at the corner I could see the figure spinning. I mentally said "spin counterclock wise" the figure would spin counterclock wise. I said "spin clockwise" the figure would spin clockwise.

That is amazing I make myself see it both way and I dont know how im doing it

I viewed this optical illusion several months ago and the figure appeared to be switching back and forth from clockwise to counter-clockwise. This time, at after 2:00 in the morning and needing sleep, I can only see her going clockwise, no matter how many of the suggestions I try.
Has the "logical part" of my brain switched off for the night? It's odd.

i can see it go both ways with out really trying o.o'

I read the info first. When I looked at the figure, in a blink it changed from counter to clockwise, and remained there. It seems that if you switch your sight to another picture, then back, you can affect the rotation. Also, the more you think about why or how it works, the more likely you will see the counter rotation. If you do not read the info first, and simply look for the pleasure of looking, then it will be clockwise. Fascinating look at brain activity.

Actually I see her turning both directions and I also can cause her to reverse directions as I wish.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we all just defining cw and ccw as either from above or below? I can't get her to change which way she's spinning, but I can change how I define the question...

I was about to post this:
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we all just defining cw and ccw
as either from above or below? I can't get her to change which way
she's spinning, but I can change how I define the question..."
But I see it now. It didn't help me to look at hip versus feet or anything. I had to stare at it for several minutes convincing myself that her leg was coming in *front* (behind) in *front* (behind) instead of the other way around.
(ie, since it's only a sillouette, the leg that's spinning is passing in front of her and behind her - but which one at which moment?)
It would still help to define whether we're talking above or below. I can't help but wonder whether the 42% saying clockwise were all saying from the same point of view?
ParmeisanDec 1st 2008 2:38PM
OK, the way that I can make her switch directions almost at will now (yes, I've been staring at this thing for a long time now) is by covering everything but her foot and shadow. It's easier to convince yourself that that's going the other way, and then reveal the rest of her to see it going that way.
Keep practising, it's fun!
