Top 25 Optical Illusions On the Web 15
This silhouette wins the award for coolest thing we've seen all day -- and it's not just because the tiny dancer above is in the buff. This is a little test that will tell you whether the left or right hemisphere of your brain is more dominant.
Instead of concentrating on her chest, concentrate on the woman's movement. If you see her spinning clockwise, that means you're using the right side, or more creative side of your brain. If she appears to be moving counter-clockwise, then that means the left side, or more logical side of your think muscle is superior.
At the Switched office, some of us see her going clockwise, others see her spinning counter-clockwise. At least one of us claims to see both, while another one of us opened this animation in Adobe ImageReady in order to isolate the frames to see if there's any direction-changing funny business going on. There isn't.

The first time I looked at it it was rotating counter clockwise; that time I wasn't done reading the whole caption below. And then I proceed to read the rest of the article. As I was reading, my left eye which was quite having the view of the wOman apparently changed her directon to clockwise. Then I use both eyes to looked at it and it was changed from counter to clockwise.

When looking at the woman spin you can actually change her movement by swaying back and forth in your chair. Your moment changes her direction and this is logical because of the way your set your site on her. It is only the motion state the person who is looking at her makes her move in the direction. Any person can see both movements if they want to. I see both and can change her back and forth before making the complete circle all the time if I want to. Try it! Go for it...

Same exact thing. She kept switching while I was reading. Thinking it was a hoax for a minute till they said no funny buisness was going on. But I still have my doubts..

I just can't get counter-clockwise >.

Same her both directions. Actually this and about 2 others are the only ones that worked. I didn't see what you are supposed to see in most?

I can see both and switch which i want to see... for counter clockwise, concentrate on the hip... for clockwise, concentrate on the foot... see if it works for you!

At first I saw the woman moving clockwise. But then I got the idea
that maybe the web link could explain more on the subject and it did.
Instead of looking at the woman look at the womans feet. The top set
moves a full 360 degrees clockwise but at the same time the shadowed
image moves 180 degrees counter clockwise.

Hi,
I've found that by tilting my head 90 degrees to the right I can make the image spin counter clockwise. In fact, at one point it wasn't spinning at all, but swinging back and forth. Also, the shadow that plays across the bottom of the image tends to reinforce the clockwise motion. Covering that part of it helped to change the direction for me.

OK There must be something wrong she is not moving at all, no matter what I did I could not make her move, any suggestions.

The reason for using a woman is the same reason that 90% of advertisements in magazines and publications are women. Men like looking at women, women like looking at men, but men and women both like looking at women (for the most part). This has been proven in marketing research.

I found out that I could choose how I perceive this one. I can switch from perceiving it as clockwise and counter-clockwise. I also could choose to perceive that she's kicking her leg back and forth instead of turning. I can either let it flow, or I can simply choose to change perceptions. It's all in the mind... :)

there is a cool way to see both ways. Close your eyes for a second, and picture the object spinning in the direction you want, and pretend to follow it with your eyes. Now open your eyes and look at the screen. It helps to move your head a little bit too.

To change her rotation you have to cast your eyes first out to the side to look at the blank, whiteness, secondly down at the shadow she is casting, then raise your eyes back up to the figure. Success doing this also seems to be dependent on timing the coming together of the black foot to the gray shadowed foot, or perhaps the swinging arm, and when you raise your eyes. It also seems important to tuck one's chin when looking down at the gray shadow and raise your eyes, so that you are looking out at the object at an angle, rather than straight on.
I saw the clockwise rotation first, my right brain is the more dominant side, but have trained myself to make the dancer appear to go in either direction.

When you start looking at the image, fouce on the outstreached legs toes not her nipples, but I do perfer the nipples.
If the outstreached leg is to the right when you start viewing, the image is spinning clockwise.
If the outstreached leg is to the left when you start viewing, the image is spinning counter clockwise.

theres nothing to it! You ask if its turning clockwise or counter clockwise? >.. If you wanna see it turn clockwise stare at the butt.. if you wanna see it turning counterclockwise stare at the foot!
SonyaOct 7th 2008 8:57AM
I first saw her going clockwise. As I stared at her she swiched to counter clockwise and then back and forth.
loidaSep 18th 2008 10:15AM
i see both
LizzSep 17th 2008 11:12AM
it changes.. our eyes dotn make it 'seem' liek tis changing .. IT IS CHANGING stare at her head and which shoulder its on instead of her feet butt and chest!! her head tilts from one side to the other then cause sing the leg that is up to change positions with the one that is down. the illusion isnt the clockwisse or counterclockwise the illusion is how fast the head switch sides that at first glance you wouldnt even notice
