Hotels Upgrading Rooms With HDTVs, But Forget HD Programming

Of course, most are playing the cost card as the reason why they have yet to offer up any HD channels on those wasted HDTVs, although not all hope is lost. At Hilton, you can expect each and every room to have a flat-panel TV and HDTV service by June of 2009, and LodgeNet, which began offering high-definition service in 2005, expects to add a half million new HD-served rooms this year alone. Please, travel venues -- don't force us to watch stretch-o-vision while away from home. [From: NY Times]

To whom it may concern; Some of you are corect when you state HD is a ripoff!!! This was a ploy to make more money from the consumer! Just like digital from the phone and cable companies! Older tvs last an average of 18-22 years, how do tv manufacturers make $$ that way?? THEY DON'T! Cable and phone cos. tell you fiber optics is new and improved. (BULLDUNG) as a previous phone co. tech i'm here to tell you, we stated useing fiber optics in 1972!!!! When companies make superior products they lose $$ untill they find a new way to decieve the public into buying new useless crap!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think basically people just want what they pay for. If all you want is clean sheets and do not care about about a quality picture on your T.V or any other upgrades then I would just stay at a drive up motel and save some cash. A lot of people on the road want softer tissue and maybe nicer sheets and should not have to apologize for wanting these things.

why in the world would you waste your time watching TV in a hotel when you're on vacation?

I have a question about the upcoming HD broadcast switch. Being that everything will be broadcast in HD next Febuary, that means that EVERY channel including the ones on Cable or Satellite will be in HD after that right? I mean, there will be no more analog so everything we watch should be in HD. I know the old movies and tv shows wont actually BE in HD form yet but they should come across alot clearer being that they are being broadcast in HD instead of analog right?
