Online Porn On Planes? Not If Flight Attendants Can Help It

This all comes after American Airlines installed wireless Internet on 15 of its planes for a testing period a few weeks ago. Without citing any specific examples of travelers viewing smut or any other objectionable content -- but perhaps acting on a story that came out a few weeks ago about airlines not blocking in-flight Internet porn -- the Association of Professional Flight Attendants have contacted American's executives to voice their concerns. A union rep said they don't want to become "moral policemen" on board, but they also don't want to deal with the inevitable problems.
Naturally, the issue hinges on where to draw the line. The union cites the fact that passengers are barred from making Wi-Fi phone calls on planes and don't seem to have any qualms about it, so why not block porn and violence too? Others wonder whether to block sites or words, and if the airlines will even limit what DVDs a passenger watches. The one point nobody seems to be making is that you can still buy skin mags in the airport lounge. Shouldn't that have been addressed already? [Source: Bloomberg via Wired]

Porno should be ban from air flights, because I would want to set next to some sicko getting off from what's he watching on his laptop. Is society getting so sick that sex has to be everywhere even in places where childern might be?

Whatever happened to the days when 99.9% of people were decent enough that the issue of someone looking at porn on a passenger airliner would not have ever even come up? How did people become so friggin' trashy in public? Why are there so many people who lack basic dignity running around in society? Maybe they could designate PORN ROW seating. "Would you prefer an aisle seat or window?" "Porn or no porn?" "Exploding shoes or knife wielders?" "Screaming baby or Outrageously obese?" "Loud and Drunk or Smelly and Snoring?" Isn't flying fun these days?

I have never posted here before, but I find it amusing that all of the people who don't have a problem with porn on a PUBLIC airplane with, (god forbid because I can't stand them either...) children, cannot spell worth a sh!t nor atriculate a good point. maybe they are typing with one hand...whoops, I should have known. Idiots.

It's a non-issue. You don't need a Wi-Fi connection to view porn!!! Duh... Pop in a DVD or download a .wmv file onto your laptop hard drive.
So the problem still exists for the flight attendants. That being said, it is not appropriate to view in public. This is a dumb argument. Wi-Fi connectivity would make business people (along with students and everyone else) more productive during their travel time.
Common sense people...

I am all for porn, hey to each his own, but seriosuly, is it worth being arrested because a child, or anyone under the age of 18 for that mater, peaked over the top of the seat and saw what was on your computer. If you have that much desire for porn, use your imagination, close your eyes, and see it by yourself.
Also, kids watching violent movies is much different than sexual movies, get a grip... I am not saying I condone the violence, but it is not illegal for your kids to watch that. This is about what is morally right, and children being subjected to porn is illegal... and just plain sick
To the lady who said "good, get out of my way" to the families that fly, better remember that while she/ and or he is probably a childless person, who works as a ceo of a big company, most likely it is families or children buying your products that you are in such a rush to get to the meeting to have approved for sale..it is real sad to hear people talk so negatively regarding children/families. You are abitter person that, when on your deathbed, will realize you should have slowed down a bit to actually enjoy life, smile at a childs laughter, reflect on your own childhood, be giving and caring.. I feel sorry for you....

I don't know what all you people are worried about. I can't recall a time in my life when someone "amused" his/her self in public with pornagraphic materials. I guess we are just creating another non-issue to concern ourselves with.

wow you guys are up tight. i am just gonna bring my porn on a dvd for my next flight and thaat way i wont need the internet. yeah right. as if someone would even do that anyway, and if so, dont you think the flight attendant would just confiscate their computer. they do have legal jurisdiction in the air... or perhaps they are just so scared of getting sued they will smile and walk away...
kmattSep 16th 2008 3:39AM
I actually sat across the aisle from a man who was watching a porn dvd on his computer screen. He had no issue with it or that everyone else saw it. The flight attendant did not say anything, but she may have been too busy to notice.
In public, porn movies are not acceptable. It is no different then if you were standing on a street corner. A person cannot walk around nude or have sex openly in public, so why should porn be allowed.
Anyone who does do this, shows lack of good judgement and lack of respect of others.
Unfortunately, in today's society, many show a lack of moral compass.
Watching porn is your business in a private situation, but imposing it upon others in an open environment is rude.

from reading these comments, allowing porn sites will obviously cause problems among passengers. the airlines are not obligated to offer wi-fi, so they can offer it on their terms. watching porn IS an individual's right, however, watching porn in public is not. i enjoy porn as much as anybody, but i have no desire to enjoy it on a plane full of strangers. and anybody that would enjoy it on a plane full of passengers is probably just a few steps away from becoming a sex offender of some sort.

JustAReply..
So free speech only applies to people when they are in their homes? lol get a clue.

Are they serious? What a bunch of MORONS! Long before "In Air WiFi" people have been bringing their laptops onboard. Anyone ever heard of DVDs? How about already downloaded porn on your laptop? If you are perverted, sick, and addicted enough to watch porn in public while sitting next to or in between two strangers, you would simply B.Y.O.P., bring your own porn. Get real Airline Industry, you people are ass wipes. Regulate something that makes sense.

As a father with a large family I still agree that parents should keep their wild, loud, undisciplined, children off the plane to begin with! At least you could choose whether or not to look at the porn. Unruly children with parents who have no control are harder to ignore. They are a menace and an infringement on the rights of other paying flyers! Down with loudmouth kids and don't worry about the porn.

Ok, If their was no violence or any thing close to it, would there be any news at all? Any shows to watch on TV? And seriously, if they banned violence, they might as well bann animals mating and feeding. Because that is related to porn. Sure, people have the right to watch porn on the plane and i agree with the parents who kids are sitting right next to you and watching as well so why don't they move? Yeah, they think you're going to be the "bigger man" and move instead but parents today are exposed to so much stuff on the internet they may be stressed out so dont blame them
