Don't Take These to Space: Worst NASA-Based Products Ever

In celebration of NASA's 50th birthday, Popular Science is running a piece on the 10 lamest products that claim to be made with "Space-Certified Technology."

Some of the winners (and when we say winners, of course, we mean losers), are the SunTiger Sunglasses, whose lenses are "forged with a NASA-pioneered dye, which mimics the retinal fluid found in the eyes of eagles, falcons, hawks and other birds of prey." Likewise, a company named PENN makes fishing tackle lube, based on NASA lubes made to protect its shuttle crawlers from corrosion and rust.

We apologize for using the word "lube" not only twice, but now three times.

The most recognizable product on the list is the memory foam used in Tempur-Pedic's mattresses and pillows, which was supposedly developed in the '70s from a material NASA used to "relieve astronauts of the G-forces felt when being fired into space."

One small step for man, and one long night laying prone for mankind. [From: PopSci]
