Readers Unite to Aid Injured Blogger With Online Auctions
Since last week, Stephanie Nielson, the author of motherhood blog the NieNie Dialogues, and her husband, Christian, have been in a Phoenix hospital burn unit after a private plane they were flying in crashed, leaving the pilot dead. As she recovers from burns to over 80-percent of her body and reconstructive skin grafts, many Web sites have started 350 auctions that could raise over $100,000 for the couple and their four children, who range from ages six to 23 months.
The reason for this outpouring of support is the inspirational message the NieNie Dialogues supplied to its 1,000 regular readers, a number that's risen to over 20,000 as Ms. Nielson's sister has taken over updates. The blog, originally started so Nielson could provide family updates to her large Mormon clan, is popular due to her upbeat and positive postings, which readers say are a welcome change from many other mom blogs that are rife with complaints about motherhood.
For more information on Nie Nie Day auctions, visit Design Mom, which has a listing of many of the prizes being offered. So far, prizes have included an autographed Maroon 5 guitar, Arizona Diamondbacks tickets, and all sorts of clothing, jewelry, and services from many generous donors. So, please get bidding and show that the Internet can really provide solid relationships between people who've never met. [From: The New York Times]

I agree with most of these posts, you are all pathetic. Stop hatin. They were not flying in their own private plane. READ the story. I was there in St Johns the day the plane they were on went down. I'm amazed at the community, the US , the world hearing about this story and for all the love & support the family is getting in the hard time that they have to deal with. Life happens. Its nice to see there are still a few good people left in the world willing to help Stephanie & Christian out. Dont be hatin' on them or jealous or else if a time comes you need help, you just might not get it!

You have got to be kidding. Pander to your Mormon leader for dollar help- he's the one with the big bucks- after all-. Let him finance your grief. You really do give a bad name to the term "Mormon". Morons.

I have to agree with a previous entry. All of you who are so down and out without a job or a way to feed your family. I feel an intenet connection is a luxury. I bet you have video games and cable too. Do you eat fast food or how about mac and cheese everynight? please you hypocrite. I have gone without cable and read a newspaper for my info. I am not intitled to what everyone else has just because. I went to school on loans which I now work and pay back and thank God I am able to get ahead and help others who are also trying. This family should not be judged, you have no idea of their situation. Recovery from burns is such a hard thing I am so thankful I have not had to face.

If you read the blog instead of just assuming...the husband was taking flying lessons to be a pilot...the man flying the plane...HIS INSTRUCTOR was the man killed...people like you who ASSUME things instead of actually taking the time to read and find out the truth of it all...ya'll make me sick...4 young children could loose their parents...go look at her blog and actually see what their life was...
oh and as for the 52-yo laid off bum...get off your computer and go out there and look for a job....if your life was really that bad you could work at mc.donalds 70 hours a week to get by...quit complaining and do something about your life and support your family...don't bad talk people who are trying to do good for a family who is in need...and yes 4 children under the age of 6 whose parents were almost killed, could still die, are in need...get a clue...

I just want to know why it looks like the family are all about to bust out in laughter? I mean, I don't want to see them crying and stuff- but its just weird to me to see that no matter what they are talking about- they look like they want to laugh.. I don't get it..

Let the idiot door knocking annoying Mormons take care of themselves

Such anger. If such a horrible thing happened to you, would you want kindness or someone to poke fun as you lay in the hospital suffering?.
Is this really about organized religion?

Bobbie Lee:
Yes, Mormons take care of their own so the government (and your tax dollars) don't have to. We teach self reliance, but we also teach compassion. You may be interested to know we also take care of those not of our faith. On the church website you can read more about this if you really care to know the truth: http://www.providentliving.org/welfare/pdf/2006WelfareFactSheet.pdf
If you don't want to take the time to read the above, allow me to state a few facts about how "we take care of" others.....
World wide Humanitarian Assistance Rendered 1985-2007:
Cash donations -- $ 259.8 million
Value of material assistance -- $750.9 million
Countries served -- 165
Food distributed -- 58, 809 tons
Medical supplies distributed -- 11,001 tons
Clothing -- 78,108 tons
Educational supplies -- 5,879 tons
Hygiene, newborn and school kits -- 7.1 million
Did I forget to mention these donations were to people in need - regardless of race, religion or creed?
Yes, you are right, Mormons will reach out to help this family. And I, as a Mormon, would do the exact same thing for you and your family if this had happened to you. How could I not?

Here's an idea: Let's start a fundraiser to provide classes for those people who desperately need to learn some reading and comprehension skills.
I feel compassion for anyone who is facing pain and adversity, regardless of his or her financial circumstances.

Uggh, I'm sick of all of these negative comments. Let's set the record straight. I know them, they did not own the plane, and this is a wonderful service project that people are rallying around to help them. Who cares about the insignificant details anyway? Why do all you bitter people care? A tragedy happened and people are working to help in any way they can, that's what service is, that's what charity is. You don't ask questions, you just help.

I was actually thinking the same thing... im like why is her whole family smiling so much! Then Im thinking that this happened a month ago so they're probally just over the shock and mourning, and just happy her and her husband are alive and recovering.
mona lisaSep 12th 2008 2:20PM
lame idiots I am sure that sort of language helps out in a job interview. Really does alot to advance understanding, courage, intelligence. wow

I think its sad that the first page of comments is negative, complaining about a private plane, etc. When this story first broke a week ago, the story explained that they were in a plane, like a sight seeing plane, for a special occasion. It wasn't THEIR plane. They were having a special day together.
How sad is it though that some people have an initial response of negativity instead of the response of, "Wow, what a wonderful story of people coming together to help a fellow human being"......no, instead its almost a jealousy sort of response that they don't deserve to have anyone helping them because they were in a private plane. They aren't "rich"..they are just a nice couple with a nice family and a positive attitude that drew many to them prior to this happening. Its nice to see that her positivity brought her good fortune in the end. Karma is real. She put out a good vibe and that's what she got back. I wish I was able to contribute myself to her cause, but I'm barely making ends meet myself. I just think its a wonderful story of the power of decency and humanity when given the chance to rise to the occasion. Thankfully, those who had come to know here weren't as cynical as a few commenting on the front page of this article.
