Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

I am so in on this. Should Volkswagen see it fit to donate one to me and let me drive it around I would be the Microbus spokesman of this generation. I really hope that this becomes reality. Peace, David.

Hey Bubba, Go take some spelling and grammar classes and then come back and post some comments. You sound like you are in 2nd grade and you obviously come from the "other side of the fence."
Sorry David B., Those last comments were not directed toward you. Wrong reply.

Stop knocking Berkeley, CA... I grew up there during the 50's (the beat group) and during the 60's... and I must say it was a very interesting place and time. Oh and how I do remember so many folks had those VW buses... then I moved back to the mid-west, and yes they had/have them, too. I can remember walking through UC Berkeley's campus and arguring with the likes of Jerry Rubin and the sit in at Sproul Hall and the fountain that was later called Ludwuz's after a dog who used to play in it. I also remember Larry Blake's joint where you could get the best salad I have ever eaten and Sid's for burgers, too... not to mention all of the coffee houses and book stores. I am so glad I was able to experince that time and place. After high school I even audited some classes at UC Berkeley before leaving for Mizzou.

Are you sure the dog only PLAYED in that fountain, and did not PISS in it? If he did, maybe they should re-name it LudWHIZ!

Oh Dennis, you are an angry person, you need some hugs. So wrong what you said, dear brother. Santa Cruz is so much cooler than that. But stereotyping is as stereotyping does. This a trip, VW!!!
I want this bus! It is a great idea and used refurbed ones are hard to find. In spite of the Dennis's, mine will come with my ready and waiting beads, tie dyed curtains and pillows, incense holders, and stereo to play my music. This 60 yer old hippie fart chick has and always be as I was in 1967...just been retreaded a fiew times. VW, Thank You!
peace...

I'm purchasing a new car next year and I would most definitely consider the VW van. I love the older cars with personality. I hope VW manufactures the VW van (at a reasonable price of course). Sign me up!

VW has been making vans in Europe and the rest of the world long after Americans quit buying them. This is just a pandering to Boomer nostalgia...VW makes very attractive and efficient vans overseas that aren't flashy enough for the American market. Anyone remember the Vanagon and Eurovan? Those were people-carriers in every sense, but didn't come with leather seats and sofa-soft suspensions like American vans and SUVs.

Methinks Dennis would benefit from a little more fiber in his diet. Perhaps that would help to loosen him up.

oh, how sad. old hippy baby boomers coming out of the woodwork...doing lame name and place drops from the 60's. unlike you baby boomers i've had vw's my whole life and because they offered german handling and performance and technology like the tdi, while giving good mileage at a low cost. these are the only reasons to own a vw. if you buy a vehicle to remind you of your youth or to feel good about yourself....you got some real issues to deal with. sorry to be so blunt.

Hey jhb,
Not all people who were young in the 60's are reliving the good old days in the present tense absentmindedly. Those were some of the best times of my life and if you are not old enough to remember, then you aren't old enough to remember. Okay, okay just let us pucker our lips for a few moments and pull some air in to reminisce. In 1969 we drove a red VW bus from Dallas, Texas to Los Angeles and back again. It was a great time and the bus didn't let us down. Hmmmm...but of course, since there were at least 12 of us in the bus (I lost count along the way) we were all so friendly back then and like helping fellow hippie travelers hitchhiking, that we didn't move very fast down the highway. Since there was so much smoke in the bus it was hard to do a Head count of just how many of us arrived in LA. Oh, where is my old Cheech and Chong VHS movie... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

VW made great cars back then. I used to own a hatchback, the 412, the mini-station wagon, a karmaguia, which looked similar to my Volvo P1800S, and sometime drove my friend's beetle. I got and shared lots of fun out of each and every one of these vehicles. I hope they do bring back the microbus. One of my friends, back then, installed a Porche engine in his VW; now, that was fun to drive...

Pardon me? a Porche engine in his VW?
Shows how much you fools know about the autos you drive...... The creator of the engine and chassis platform that eventually became Volkswagon was Dr Ferdinand Porche...... the damned bettle ALWAYS had a Porche engine in it! The air cooled flat 4 cyl used in the Beetle, Bus (Transporter), 412, and Karmon Ghia were all the original design done in the 30's by Dr Porche.
Point is, ALL V-Dubs of the 60-70's used Porche engines.

I have fond memories of going to Canada and all the western states in my family's VW bus. We'd stay mostly at KOA's. I wish I could give my kids the same adventure.

My Grandpa was a kid back then and he said the engines were constantly catching on fire. There's a group of about 8 smelly old hippies that live just outside of town who drive one of these pieces of garbage. Whenever they show up in our little town's grocery parking lot half the store immediately clears out. That is how bad they all stink. But they are SO fashionably liberal. I guess they haven't changed much from their 60's days cuz my grandpa said they all smelled even back then. GEEESH....will these old has-beens EVER grow up?
